I recently added weight gainer to my diet to try and increase the calories I was getting each day. I used to fall close to 1000 calories short a day on my recommended intake. So I upped the calories by 500 to start and see what kind of results I would get off that. Keep in mind my goal is to try and gain weight. So I went to weigh myself on Sunday as I do every week, I only have a glass of water before I weight myself every week so nothing different there, and guess how much weight I gained!? 2 pounds? nope, 5 pounds!? nope...
I actually LOST 14 POUNDS!!!!!!!!!! I was standing on the scale really confused. Since I started training my weight hasn't flucuated all that much (175 lbs), but after adding the weight gainer, somehow I lost a TON of weight (161 lbs). My diet otherwise was completely the same.
I imagine this all happened because I took my body out of starvation mode, but was still not getting enough calories to gain or even maintain my current weight.
I guess it goes to show you that one meal in your day can mean the difference between making gains or losing weight.
I guess I learned my lesson and now I am going to try even harder to make sure I go over my daily limit.

Well now I have to ask this question in spite of knowing how weird/stupid it is. I'm still struggling along trying to get enough calories. Does this mean that I can add a weight gainer to try to get more calories, or continue to soldier on trying to get up to 1500 calories per day? I've finally made it to 1200 (a lot of days), all clean calories and I am losing weight. Burning 2500 calories per day, taking in almost 1200.

I would say it all depends on your goals Anni. If you are trying to lose weight, I would stay far away from it. It is stocked full of carbs and with a couple servings, you are already at your daily limit of carb intake. It would be much better to try and get those calories from whole, clean foods instead.
I will say that if you are only eating 1200 calories a day and are supposed to get 2500. You should try as hard as you can to get that number up closer to 2500.
You will find that makes a big difference in helping you lose weight.
It did for me although that wasn't exactly what I intended.

Update on this... I added 400 more calories to my daily intake. Since the time of the first post I have gained 3 pounds!! :dumbbell::big_smile::dumbbell:
I will now have to scale up another 150 cals or so to keep making gains.
