Hello,
I'm new to this site and so far I have gathered a lot of information about HIIT from FitBuddy. I've kinda come across two ways of doing HIIT and I was wondering which way will burn the most fat? or maybe it doesn't matter which one I use...I don't know.
The first way of doing HIIT is to alternate between a really high pace and a mediocre pace, alternating every 30-60 seconds. The second way it has been described is to progress from a mediocre level (lets say you would start at 5 if your using a scale of 1 to 10.) Then after the first minute you go up to 6, then after that minute you go up to 7 and so forth until you HIIT your highest point which would be 10, then you start the process over again from 6.
So far I've been doing the second version of HIIT and I find it fun and challenging. However, I just started to try the first version and I don't really like it because for one, you look like an idiot drastically changing your pace every minute and secondly I just find it uncomfortable. I would rather build up on my levels and then repeat the process (second version.) So with that being said I'm looking for experienced persons who have tried HIIT. Please let me know which way works for you and let me know if you think the difference between the two programs will be a big deal when it comes to boosting my metabolism. Thank-You in Advance.

I cannot answer which is better for you. I myself prefer to alternate every minute. I will do 60 seconds at 10 and then 60 seconds at 4/5. I usually do this for 20 minutes. I find it more challenging myself.

I like HIIT.. I think it's just the less time factor for me... I do it one of two ways...
Warm up for four mintues, go hard for 20 seconds, slow for 10, go hard for 20, slow for 10... this takes about four to five minutes, whatever you can handle... then cool down for about four minutes... the other way is to alternate the heavy duty and slow pace at about 30 seconds each...
Like Hec says, whatever works for you.... everybody is different!

Also... I've been wondering about this aspect of cardio, be it HIIT or regular:
I work out at different times from cardio... day off or six hour separation or so... if I work out in the AM, is it still okay to do cardio a couple of hours before bed? Does it matter if it HIIT or not? Since HIIT effects continue through out the day, does it matter if your body is active or sleeping?
Thanks,
t
