Can this be done? If you lift 4 days a week and do cardio 4 days a week, can you decrease your bodyfat without dropping the number on the scale? Is it possible to gain muscle mass ( go from 162 to 170) and cut body fat percentage at the same time.
I have lost the weight I wanted to. Now I want to increase weight by building muscle. I want to reduce my body fat so that last little bit of the belly will go away. I can't afford to drop any more weight. Am I fighting a losing battle?

Yes, you can drop body fat without loosing weight - muscle (which weighs more) will replace the fat. I am thinking you may probably have to adjust your diet mp1li - depending on how much cardio you are doing, you may need to ensure that you are getting enough food/nutrition to maintain and make the muscle gains goals you set.
Hope this helps :)

mp1li, you have the exactly opposite problem as mine. I want to lose weight (number on the scale) but it stays the same while the bodyfat is decreasing. So, starting this week I am adding more cardio and less carb to my routine.
But for you, like I_Am-azon said, decrease in cardio and increase in calories (protein kind) are likely in order for you. :)

So I should be more concerned with eating right and feeding those muscles, so I gain muscle weight and reduce bodyfat. I understand that if I concentrate on lifting and putting on 5 to tens pounds of muscle then my bodyfat percentage decreases. Thanks for all you help.

hmmm, I heard gaining muscle whilst trying to drop fat is genetics. Or is it possible for anyone with the correct diet.

4 days of cardio will not be productive towards your muscle building goals. You are better off eating right and building the muscle, then losing weight as a result of your increased metabolism.

Last summer i weight 80kg and 84cm and 13% BF according to an online BF calculator waist but i got injured so i couldn't go to the gym and gain muscle so i decided to start cutting. So for 5 weeks i reduced my weight to 75kg! and my waist droped down to 78cm and 11% BF.I did by starvation(big mistake!) and 25min cardio two times a week on my veloergonometer(bike)?Where was i wrong?I think you should have sticked to my normal eating and do cardio 4 times a week. The good thing about the veloergometer is that it doesn't burn muscle. Will it work this way?

Obviously he's doing cardio on some of the days he's lifting.
