Whats the minimal amount of weightlifting you have to do to maintain strength and build tone. With work and school,i don't have the energy or time to lift an hour of weights all the time. Also, do things like pilates work well for guys?

Even working a bodypart or two for half an hour, three or four days a week will be better than nothing.
Pilates will work as well for guys as it does for girls, physiologically we realy aren't that different.

How well does it work for girls, then? Can it count as a workout?

It is supplemental. It can count as an abdominal workout, but you are really doing more of a stretching/stability workout with pilates. It will also depend on the type of pilates you are doing and the routines focus. I have a pilates for abs dvd that i really like and really feel afterwards.
