This may seem like a silly question--all comments welcome!--How much weight should I be lifting if I am a beginner and am looking to lose weight and tone--I seem to be sort of a wimp when it comes to lifting. I've found that if I tend to overdo it--I get "man muscles". I've got the reps down, but how do I know what weight is right for me?:dumbbell:

missdoone, you just have to experiment with the weight at first. If you are doing for example sets of 4, the first couple of sets are for warm up. They should be done with relatively light weight. You should be able to easily complete the set. You increase weight each set The last set, you should use enough weight that you have difficulty finishing the prescribed number. Increase weight as you get stronger.

Don't try to set records in the beginning. Just lift , work on proper form and stick to it. Welcome to FT.
