Hi,
I've had pretty good results following this program. The weird thing is, my wife followed the same program very strictly and didn't show much imprvement at all as far as weight loss. She did very well in improving strength and endurance (which i think is most important,) but her weight stayed the same, where i lost over 20 pounds after two FT programs! i keep telling her to stick with it, but she's not gettting the results she wants, and it's driving her crazy that I am. Any ideas?
Thanks,
jon a

Weight loss may not be the thing you want to consider exclusively. If your wife is gaining muscle and losing fat she could easily get heavier or show no loss in weight. Muscle is heavier than fat. What does the tape measure say?? Are her cloths looser?

That's what i've been telling her - her clothing is fitting the same, more or less. it's just frustrating for her. She just wants to drop 5-10 pounds, but just seems to be gradually gaining. She just has a hard time seeing how well she's doing because for her, the allmighty guage is weight. When she looks at those "optimum healthy weight relative to height" calculators, she's verging on being overweight, which is insane, because she's pretty lean. But in her mind, if those things say she's too heavy, she feels too heavy. It's complicated...
thanks,
jon a

Her calorie amount is not going to be exactly the same as yours. Did you figure for each of you? Sounds like she is at her maintenenance calorie limit, while you way under yours(thus creating a caloric deficit for you but not for her).

NAd you are male, you will lean out easier with a less restrictive diet than she will. She needs to get onto FT and have people evaluate her diet and routine. We can't dial it in through you.

My sympathies to your wife! We have it drummed into us for years that weight is the be all and end all and it is really difficult to get out of that mind set. The healthy weight to height calculators don't take body composition into account - waist circumference is a much better measure than weight for health - bin the scales!
If she isn't seeing a great change in her size then she maybe will need to cut back her intake a bit - I know the recommended calorie intake for myself is a bit high, and I think other people have commented the same on previous posts.
good luck to you both

frn, let me tell you that my husband and are are doing the same thing also. Except he really doesn't work out, just works hard everyday. In the last 3 months he has lost.....(drumroll here) 39 lbs. I on the other hand who work out 5 days a week have lost a whopping 9 pounds.
I think it's definately a woman thing losing slower AND how much weight do you need to lose compared to here. Mine needs to lose quite a bit, where as I am just like her, on the edge of being overweight. I know if you have more to lose it will lose faster.
I have found myself getting discouraged also as he loses so quickly without even trying other that his eating habits but now im just looking at it as wow.. I wasn't that fat to start with so Im glad.
So I haven't lost much weight, BUT i have noticed increased energy and Im getting much stronger as time goes on. THAT is what feels so good about this..

Thanks for all the supportive responses!

Assimmer, she is on ftPro (she recruited me...) so when you mentioned she can have her diet and routine evaluated, should that be done here, in the forum, or is there somewhere specifically for that in ftPro?

Thanks again,
jon a

She can do it in the nutrition forum if she likes, tell her to post about it.
