I tried the EPT Test, and it came out positive and in fact I WAS PREGNANT! I would go with EPT or Clear Blue Easy.

How far along does it have to be before you can take it?...She says she is 2 weeks late but I dont even think she knows for sure it shifts from month to month it seems like.....Also within the past 2 weeks we have been intimate also so if anything happened within that time would it be able to tell????

most pregnancy tests can be positive from the first day of the missed period but if she isn't regular this could complicate matters.
basically they should be positive 2-3 weeks after conception, but this could be 3-4 weeks after sex as sperm can survive for up to a week.
So she could certainly take one now but if she has conceived in the last couple of weeks, it probably wouldn't show up. If she gets a negative result, she should repeat the test in 2-3weeks if she still doesn't get her period.
The home tests are pretty accurate - I have worked in obs/gynae in the past in the uk and we would take home test results seriously - I assume US tests are much the same

I was under the impression that as soon as a woman gets pregnant a hormone gets released, and this is what the HPT picks up on. I was 3 days late and it gave a correct reading. Jcannuck - you are in Canada right?? - she can go to her doctors and get one free of charge (I did- just to make sure - I was so excited about it and didn't want it the results to be wrong!)

yes the hormone Hcg gets released - and can be detected in urine once it gets above a certain level - usually about 2 weeks after conceiving, which is about the same time as you notice you are late.

yo mang, i wouldn't be worried too much if you took the proper measures. If you didn't however, it doesn't hurt to check.
One time i had a girlfriend miss a period by about 3 weeks...i was sh**ting bricks, then she got it right before finals...it was because she was under so much stress. Also, how old is she? A girls cycle can be irregular sometimes too depending on the age...but usually past 18 it settles down to every 28 days.
hang in there mang

If you're really worried, you should go to the doctor for a real pregnancy test. That would be the most foolproof way to find out. It is true that the body releases Hcg when pregnency occurs, but there are so many veriables affecting the release of that hormone, especially if she is not regular to begin with, that those test can't be 100%.
