Have a couple of questions after completing my first day of my training program.
Push-ups: I'm doing these from my knees, but the front of my thighs touch the ground before my chest gets close - what am I doing wrong?
side laterals and can curls: I'm using two 5lb wieghts, do I enter the weight as 5 or 10 lbs?
Home Squats: Does it matter if my knees are over my instep? (as opposed to my ankle).
:)
:dumbbell:
Thanks for your help,
Pam

For push up, doing them like that, your theighs will touch first, just don't let that be a resting point.
Enter them as "5's"........because if you enter them as 10, then you'll next time either pick up 10's..... or then you have to divide by 2 to get the weight you want to use. I like to keep it simple as possible.
Fro squats you need to keep your knees over you toes, if they go in you can do alot of damage, depening on how much weight you use, and over time even with light weight, you can damage your knees, ancles, hips . IF your legs get messed up, then it could cause back problems etc.
Knees over toes always.

you can also put your knnes on say a phone book or so, so your theighs won't touch the floor......just a lil thought to add on.

Thanks Andrew: The phone book is a good idea, and I now understand about the squats - I thought the problem was to make sure the knees didn't go too far forward - had no idea the problem was to keep them from pointing inward - major lightbulb:)
Thanks again,
Pam

just a note on squats, I dunno if you do body weight, or what but , you will bend at the waist 1st then the knees. This is so with a barbell anyways. And do ben concerned abotu leaning forward a lil bit, just don't let your chest go past your knees, everything stays in line with your knees. Some powerlifters actully bend over quiet alot.

I'm just using my body weight right now (no dumbbells), but thanks for the tip about bending from the waist first.
