i got so confused on the way home from the gym today because i started thinking about how i've filled out my nutritional info on the site and i don't think that my metabolism is as slow as i say it is. i mean, i don't have a hard time losing body fat. in fact, i don't have much to lose at all, but i've been in a fat loss plateau, so really i am having a hard time losing the last little bit of body fat. is this making sense so far?
anyway, i started thinking that maybe the reason i'm not losing any more fat is that i'm not eating enough calories to fuel myself because i'm going by the fat loss guidelines for someone with a slow metabolism.
here are my stats:
i'm 6'0", 173lbs and i do 45 min-1 hour of intense lifting 5 days a week. should i be eating more than the 2300 calories that are recommended per day by my ft nutrition plan or should i stick with what i'm doing and see if i break out of this?
all opinions are welcome:big_smile:

Is that 2300cal for someone with slow metabolism? How much does the ft recommend for some with fast metabolism?
I'd like to know the answer to your question too. :)
Btw, in another thread, asimmer recommended changing protein:carb:fat ratio. It might be relavant here also...

Hi Howdie
I've put myself on a small diet as well. I guess I weight around 158-163lbs (I never weight myself -it only gives me headache! ) and I'm 5'11''
I've been doing several competitions etc so I know everything about counting calories BUT this time I don't count or weight anything since I'll never be able to know exactly how much I burn either.
I also have some small problems with my hormones and thyroid so I'll never really know what sort of metabolism I got. What I do (and the reason why I still got my abs showing :) ) is I listen to my body. I eat several small meals during the day, try to get enough proteins and never binge in carbohydrates or bad fat.
To write everything down, helps a lot as well.

Howdiekat, I think you could drop your calories by 100 and see what happens, you most likely have a pretty high metabolism, but have you been consistently getting in the same average amount of calories day-to-day? If you have been eating 2300 for a few months and have plateaued, you may need to up your protein a little, drop your carbs a tiny bit and add 5 minutes to one or two cardio sessions - seee how that works out.
-------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight.

now that you mention the consistency issue, i try really hard to get up to 2300 every day, but there are some days when i think i'm doing well and i'll add everything up and i'll be at 1400 at the end of the day. terrible, i know, especially for someone who's lifting as much as i do.
i think what i'm going to do is try to hit 22-2300 every day for a week and see what happens. i'm pretty sure i'm eating the right stuff, just maybe not enough of it on a regular basis or on the right schedule. i'll write everything down today and see what i've got at the end of it. maybe i'm not doing as hot as i think i am:(
