If you don't experience DOMS after a lifting session, did you really do anything? I just never feel accomplished if I can move the body part I worked the next day! Lately though, I haven't been experiencing as much soreness as I'd like, even though I've been lifting a little bit heavier. It makes me feel like I have to go back to the gym and do it all over again!

Yes, your body has major phases it goes through with any exercise program. I just learned, you should always change your routine every 3 weeks. It is called a metabolic and burn phase. For example, if you 10-12 reps for three weeks, change it and do 7-9 for three weeks and change it to 20's or try pyramids. The point being is if you don't feel the DOMS change it up.

Uhm I would say no!!! You cannot judge the quality of a work out by how sore you are!! The pain stops as your body becomes acustomed to the movements you ask it to make. Delayed on set muscle soreness, is a phenomena experienced 24 to 48 hrs after the work out. Also not every ones body experiences this. As to muscle shocking by changing up of work outs that is a whole nother debated issue.

Hmmm... not sure if that's it since I NEVER do the same routine twice, let alone for 3 weeks in a row!

I just love the workouts I have where it hurts to even breathe the next day! Unfortunately, it doesn't happen that often anymore - even though I constantly change my routine and increase the weight. It leaves me feeling like I did nothing. :(

DOMS has nothng to do with a good or bad workout. It just means you have worked either the muscles past a point that you had not reached and or used them differently. I hardly ever feel DOMS in my Biceps but I think they have grown nicley!

Ok, that makes me feel better. I thought maybe I wasn't working out hard or often enough.

DOMS is no indication of a good workout. Some people get sore all the time, but normally the more highly trained you become, this does not happen any more. I you hit from some new angle, you may feel a bit of soreness there, but even this will not rival what you get in the beginning. If you are taking your workouts to the max and you feel the muscle work on each set, then you are doing all you can.
