Hey guys im really new to this dieting thing. Wow that's an ugly word. Anyways im trying to eat a lot healthier. I'm now trying to eat 6 meals a day max if not that as close as i can to six anyways let me know what you guys think about my eating habits. Here is my general eating pattern

Meal 1: 2-4 egg whites
Meal 2: due to school MWF i just snack on peanuts if not school i usually have some tuna
Meal 3-4 i usually just mix some cottage cheese with my tuna i think it tastes good as nasty as it sounds
Meal 5-6: (actually this one is more of a question. Can i have my whey protein as a meal or part of a meal even though its not a meal replacement shake? whats something good to eat with it?) And for dinner not sure which meal but its usually some chicken or meat with pasta or rice.
Let me know what you guys think.. i'm realy new to the dieting thing, dont know how to count carbs and all that crap lol but im learning healthier foods slowly but surely. Also another question when u eat pasta, rice etc... how can u tell how much protein and stuff ur having lol i doubt ppl actually measure it Anyways thanks a lot for the help

I would suggest to stop dieting and call it adopting a healthy lifestyle. Part of your new exercise and eating plan for life.. As a young man still growing you do need plenty of food. Dieting should be just a matter of eating slightly less of the wholesome foods that make up your new eating plan. Fill in all your profile and get an understanding of the results and suggested foods- Fill in the diary with the foods you eat(as best you can) and this will add up what you eat over time, giving you a result of what is high or low- Then you just tweak out the bad bits.. I write it like it's easy and it is once it is a habit for you. Stick to basics first- choose brown bread/pasta/rice.. 8 meals (so 2 snacks are part of the plan), 6 different fruits/veg daily(but not in evening), higher protein/lower carb value of an evening.. Set a goal to lose 6 pound a month- weigh yourself and measure everything then set a realistic training goal (to run a mile in 8 mins within 2 months or something)
Once the starting point, parameters and aims are set. Then you can begin the healthy eating bit, food must be available so think how you can carry a snack other than peanuts- a good sandwich or salad.
There's no protein to worry about in pasta, it's the meat that goes in it and the fat is in that and the sauce- look at the nutrition database and search for ''standards'' you can use for the food diary input. like search bolognese, lasagne, beef mince etc... it will be worth the effort

As for goals i'm not really looking to lose weight and can run probably less than an 8 min mile. I'm actually just looking to tone up if that makes any sense. I am fairly happy with my weight right now. I just want to turn it all into muscle i guess. I play basketball a lot so i guess a iwant a basketball player's body with the cuts, etc...
Also this is probably a dumb question but what do you mean by file in profile and diary? I thought my profile was already filled out lol
