..to Sushi! Even using the whole ball of wasabi now, and need extra ginger.
I have an incredible Japanese food store with a tiny sushi bar at the back nearby to work and home. They get their fresh fish delivery on Tuesdays, and I am there every week for the last year. Lately, I crave it all the time. I'm up to three times a week!! I've started ordering it sashimi style (just the piece of fish over celery or cucumber) to cut back on the rice.. if I get it ngiri style (fish on ball of rice) I usually just eat half the rice. Hard to figure out how to track this on the calculator.. some of the rolls I love have a bit of avocado, cucumber, asparagus and spicy sauce in them etc. I really think a study should be done on the addictive properties.. I see the same people there over and over who say the same thing.. it's a bigger crave than White Castle! Geez, I just had a quick roll yesterday and I want to go back for lunch today.. errrgh! |

Totally off the subject, but, what is White Castle?? I just saw a preview of a movie...something like Habib and Joe go to White Castle. It's like Dude, where's my car, with "that asian guy from American Pie", and "the indian guy from Van Wilder". I don't know. I'm from Northern California, and I have lived in southern california...am I missing something?-------------- In order to live, you must be willing to die. |

I just started eating sushi and it is really addictive.
Been having it twice a week for the past 3 months! The other day I had yakisoba (japanese noodles) with chicken and shrimp, was still hungry after and stopped for sushi. White Castle is a hamburger chain. Think Crystal Burger and you've got it.

White Castle's.. tiny little grease-burgers you can buy by the case, meal comes with 4 of them to make up a serving... grocery stores carry them frozen now but nothing like the real thing at 3 AM (best fountain coke there too).
Wasabi - used to be I couldn't even get a dash of it on there without choking, now I'm smearing it on the top of each piece AND mixing it in my soy sauce. Really clears the sinuses! |

Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuushiiiiiiiiiii!
There is a resturant out here that has a sushi buffet (there's a suprise for Vegas!). All top of the line stuff - they cut the fish up while you watch; very fresh. They have 50 types of sushi, hot entrees like stuffed jumbo shrimp, sukiaki, etc., plus an incredible dessert bar. The whole kit and kaboodle is only $25 for dinner! And, they'll give you a free dinner on your birthday. So, I'll be stuffing my face silly twice this week: Thursay is one of my partner's b-day, and Sunday is mine....... MAJOR grub time! -------------- Michael Trample the weak; hurdle the dead! Chaos, Panic, Disorder.... Yes, my work here is done! rev8ball@freetrainers.com |

I'm in the uk and sushi here is 'not real' and very expensive for nothing. I can lay a bit of thinly sliced salmon on a cucumber goujon at home for a lot less money. For that matter I can make a packet of salmon, tomatoes and other veggies to feed 3 for the price of not even half a snack of sushi. For £5.99 I can get 12 tiny rice rings with a slither of fish in each of the 12 bites. I cant afford that once a week and it isn't at all a meal, let alone a snack! Is sushi much different where all of you are from?

There are several kinds of sushi Neil, the rice rings are called Maki, or sushi rolls - some restaurants make them much better than others. I am very fussy about where I have sushi for that exact reason. Sometimes you aren't getting much for your money.
Personally I prefer the piece of fish (usually about an ounce) on top of either rice or slivered cucumber.. this is called Ngiri. For a meal I have 4-6 pieces, and a good tuna roll, it is certainly sufficient .. unfortunately I like it so much I usually order even more than that. It isn't cheap.. my husband flipped when I had a receipt for $25USD from lunch one day.. but I was REALLY hungry that day, usually it's about $12. ****Happy Birthday Rev!***** Please share the name of the restaurant, I'm coming out to Vegas this fall for MY birthday! -------------- : ] ~Danielle Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action. ~Benjamin Disraeli |

i think in the uk it's still quite new and it's mostly overpriced rubbish for the trendy people. Ngiri style sounds nice and I have found an alledgedy proper decent japanese restaraunt here in london to try out. It all sounds nice, but honestly we british do put up with some second rate rubbish- Don't come to the uk for dinner- you wont like it!

I don't think we have those in the Midwest golem, never heard of it.
Today is the first day in a long time that sushi does not sound good to me... but then, nothing sounds good to me, I have the "seis de mayo" sickness. :( -------------- : ] ~Danielle Action may not always bring happiness, but there is no happiness without action. ~Benjamin Disraeli |
