Is it better to squat all the way down so your almost sitting on your heals before you stand or just to the point where your thigh is parallel with the floor? also for close grip presses elbows in to the ribs or not?

The squat parralel is fine. close grips I keep elbows in to help prevent injury to them.

Parallel is fine, somtimes I like to go a lil lower to really burn the quads, and help me power up out of that sticking point.

either way is good on squat, and keep those elbows in on close grips, cuz it takes stress off your chest, and your tris have to do all the work, which is what you want from them.
