I have read so many conflicting statments about the "best"
Diets Its making my head spin. I also believe it inforces bad habbits.
Atkins - Ketosis (sick or starving) is not a good state for your body to be in?
Southbeach Diet - claims you will lose belly fat first?
I just want to be Healthy and Happy?
-------------- We must take care of our bodies, its where we live.

You need to make fitness and healthy eating a lifestyle.
Eat what you like, in moderation, and exercise. Oh, and be happy.
-------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight.

These diets, by any name, Atkins, Ketosis, South Beach, any diet that you cannot stay on is a fad diet. Asimmer is right on. It is a lifestyle eating change that will get you the lasting results you want.

Quoting from asimmer:
You need to make fitness and healthy eating a lifestyle.
Eat what you like, in moderation, and exercise. Oh, and be happy.

If your diet is not too bad to start with it is better instead of completely overhauling it to focus on a specific aspect
ask the question what is it about my diet that is stopping me from reaching my goals?
If you find that most of the time it is good but you binge from time to time ask: why do I binge?
nine times out of ten people binge because their diet is too restricitive and leads to cravings.
If the problem is too many beers at the weekend you know what to do and you just need to make the decision about what you are prepared to sacrifice for your goals.
It isn't rocket science and there is no magical quasi-scientific eat x,y and z and lose weight formula.
Most people know what they should be eating, it's putting it into practice that's the problem.(the one exception to this is a lot of people don't realise when they're not eating enough)
