ive been training for 2 months, im not actually using an ft training plan though.. Im starting to see some good results doing my workout plan that a personal trainer put together. Currently im doing all muscle groups in the one day (arms, chest, back, shoulders...) i see that most of yous do arms one day, shoulders next, is it important to do it that way. I dont like the idea of working out a specific muscle group once a week it seems like a waste of time.
I do weight training every 2nd day, but if a muscle group is still sore from the previous workout ill miss it out that session (today for instance im not going near my obliques, damn i sure worked them the other day). btw im usually in the gym for 2 hours.
Any input would be great. My personal trainer didnt even suggest doing different muscle groups daily, is it just for the hardcore body builder types that would workout this way?

Man in my pinion ou should really stop doing every muscle group in one day!!!! You muscles reallyget worn out during one muscle group workout, and doing 4 doesn't help!!!!

Depends on your goals.........As long as your not trying to do 3 or 4 excercises of each group( shoulders, tris etc.) Only thing I wouold say is that you need to cut your workout time down. 2 hours to me is a lil long. I work out in about 1 and a half and thats including cardio.
Ask him what his cerified through and ask how he came up with this......some places all you have to know is the muscle names and you have a job. I would only do this work outs maybe 3 times a week. Ever 2nd day is a lil much, starting otu you will see results after a while though you will plateau, cause your body will need more rest and nurishment. :dumbbell:

garvani, I am so bummed, i typed a really long, detailed response to this post and I got booted off somehow before it posted.
Total body workouts are good for beginners. As you get more advanced and can really trash your muscles it helps to split them out. I know if i work chest first, my legs and back and arms wouldn't get the benefit the same day because i would have expended all of my energy on chest. Does that make sense?
Your workouts are too long if they are 2 hours, I used to take 2 hours from walking into the gym, changing, lifting, cardio, stretching, sauna, shower, dressing and make-up. I doubt you are doing all that.. try to trim your workout to an hour and stick to compound moves that work large groups of muscles. You don't need a lot of small muscle isolation as a beginner.
It can be bemeficial to move to an upper body/lower body split next and then eventually to one muscle group at a time, but if you don't care too much about getting bigger and are just workoing out for maintainence or health, total body three times a week is okay.
My other response was more detailed, but I get a little discouraged when it kicks me out like that....

Garvani, shoulders chest and back are all compound, and bi's tri's forearm are isolated.. why not put shoulders on Friday, and move triceps to Monday.. you can keep chest and back together, they're push/pull, but having all three together seems alot for one day.
..just my two cents :)
