I have been doing tae bo for a while with very small gains. I was just wondering if there was some way to make progressive gains in my cardio while doing it or if i could maybe just be getting to used to it? i lift about 5 times a week and i also use some kind of cardio equipment at the gym i use tae bo more as a substitution if i don't have time to finish up my cardio at the gym or on a non lift day. any advice?

What do you mean by gains? More endurance? The workout getting easier? If you do it consistently and get enough rest, it should get easier.-------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight. |

I don't feel like I have any more enudrance after I've been doing my cardio workouts. I'm stronger than I've been in a long time my muscle mass has increased greatly but I'm not burning any fat if anything my body fat percentage has increased. it makes absolutley no sense to me because i was always tought that the more muscle or lean tissue that you have the more fat you burn naturally. thats what i mean by gains, i guess i should have said loss.I only have about 12 more lbs to lose i've lost about 20 so far(i don't realy weigh myself regulary, it tends to discourage me)and i know i've hit a plateau but i've been stuck here for about a year and a half. i wasn't expecting tae bo to get me through the plateau but i figured changing the style of my cardio might help and it really hasn't. i've change the intensity the duration everything i've even had bloodwork run by my doctor but nothing has been able to pull me through it. i keep fighting through it but it is so frustrating, i've meet with trainers and health nutritionists and i was an aerobics instructor and i am a massage therapist so i do know a lot about the human body and how to test its limits but nothing seems to be helping me. i'm sorry to ramble on like this but it's just so discouraging. Have you gone through anything like this? Doyou have any advice for me on how to maybe work through this? i'm open to any suggestions.-------------- The greater the obstacle the more glory in overcoming it! |

Start by writing down what you eat for three or four days. Then write down what you do for your workouts for a week.
What do you weigh, what is your bodyfat percentage? Breaking through a plateau can be hard, but I am sure we can figur something out. -------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight. |

I've tried several nutritional plans. Right now I basicly just watch my portions eat at least two servings of broccoli or some other fiber rich veggie. I am begining to wonder however if one of my big problems is that i usually have either bran cereal or plain oatmeal for breakfast and i wonder if my body maybe isn't reacting well to that unstable morning blood sugar.I think i might change it to a protien shake or something else more high in protein. What do you think?I try to eat 5-6 "half meals" a daybut i usually get about 4-5 (one of them being junk usually) but i have been told that as long as you do solid cardio that eating small junk is ok.I just have a killer sweet tooth since i quit smoking, i have even bought sugar free hard candy and popsicles to help the cravings to at least try to cut the extra calories. i also try to stay away from refined sugar and white flour (i was diagnosed with IBS and i have heard that those two things are the devil to your colon)any suggestions on the sugar cravings? could there be something causing them? I weigh 130 right now I'm 5'2 my goal is to get back to 112 with my old solid muscular phisique I don't want to get bulky i just want to look like myself again! my workouts have varied from heavy weights low sets to try and spike my metabolism by building solid muscle to low weights high reps to try to tone and burn fat, right now i'm kind of in the middle of the road moderate weight with high rep (that is what this program recomends. my body fat percentage is about32% it was at about 16% i was in very good shape and that is what kills me because i always thought that your muscle memory would help to bring you back in no time PLEASE HELP! any advice you can give me I am open to it.Thanks-------------- The greater the obstacle the more glory in overcoming it! |

Like I said, write down what you eat and when for 3-4 days and maybe we can figure something out.
I can't see the big picture if you don't paint it for me. What happened between 16% and 32%, how long ago was that? Muscle memory will help you rebuild muscle faster, but the fat is a different issue. The programs here tend to be good ones, the key is sticking with it and being patient. it didn't take you a week to get out of shape, you aren't going to get into shape in a week. Get back to me with more specific information about your eating habits. -------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight. |

I will closley document what I eat for the next three days and post it for you to look at. I honestly did gain 30 lbs in three weeks, when I quit smoking. My body fat just spiked out of control. I mean I was in a bikini contest on St. Patricks day and three weeks later iI couldn't get my jeans over my thighs. I went to my doctor right away to see if anything might have been happening that I didn't see but he ran up all kinds of blood work and everything was fine.He did put me on Lasix because I was retainging a lot of water for an undetrmined reason, but that was all. It has been over a year now that i've been working hard at trying to lose it and I have lost about 14 Lbs but I've just been stuck for a long time now. I know I don't look terrible but I'm just not happy with where I'm at.Oh, I did try to jump on the low carb bandwagon and I lost 6 Lbs in two weeks but as soon as I brought the carbs back in it came right back on. I personally can't function without some carbs good or bad.I don't know how some people can live a low carb lifestyle, I'd wind up in a car accident or something with how tired I get.
But anyway I'll get back to you with a detailed 3 day journal of what I've been eating. Thanks for taking the time to help me out:) -------------- The greater the obstacle the more glory in overcoming it! |

I am so sorry that I haven't responded toyou in a while, My husband and I moved to Dallas, Texas from Chicago, and then we found out that we are going to have a baby! Not a planned thing but a great thing none the less. So I guess my priorities have changed a little bit, now instead of counting calories to keep them at 1700 to lose I have to keep it at 2000 to 2500 balanced with a higher carb and protien intake for the babys growing needs. I'm almost out of the first trimester but would you happen to know what I can do to keep active? My doctor said I could still do tapes at home but I think that is too much, any sugesstions on either exercise or nutrition?

In answering your original question about Tae-bo, I did my tapes before pregnancy and they helped me tremendously to shape up. It really targeted those trouble areas for me, like my waist, hips, butt, in addition to an overall body conditioning. I recommend it to any one to see great results! But, not when you are pregnant. No twisting of torso allowed! Again, God bless you and baby!
