I am new and I have the opposite problem of most women my age. I am a 30 year old, 5'4", 102lb female who currently takes in 3000-3500 calories on a daily basis without an excersise program and I can't gain weight. In fact I had to go through extensive medical testing last fall due to the fact that I had lost nine lbs out of no where and was down to 94 lbs. I fight illness constantly and don't have enough energy after maintaining my body weight to get through the day. I am trying excersise to help with the energy, however I already get tired of eating what I have to in order to maintain without exerting additional energy. Any bright ideas on most helpful foods or ways to increase calorie intake without having to eat more than the 5 times a day that I do? I have tried the protien shakes, but I haven't found one yet that I can stomach. Help if you can. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. Also, if you are another woman with this problem please contact me, I could really use to know that I am not alone, and to have someone to talk to about this that won't hate me for my metabolism. No one seems to understand it isn't as fun as they fantasize.

I have a fast metabolism too (though not as fast as yours) and have difficulty gaining lean muscle mass due to it. As a teenager I couldn't gain a pound as hard as I tried, but as I got older the weight started creeping up. So I can sympathize with you and realize that most other women will just roll their eyes. Anyway, try Muscle Milk. It's one of the best tasting protein shakes out there (especially the banana flavor - throw it in the blender with a real banana for a healthy, high calorie treat!). It also has a lot of essential fats in it to boot, so I think it will be a great addition to your meals. You can buy it online at www.vitaminshoppe.com or get it at GNC. Good luck!

Thanks, I appreciate the advise. I had the opposite problem you had. In my teens I weighed about 118 and had no problems keeping weight on. Why my metabolism is speeding up as I get older I don't know. But whatever I can do to keep my weight up I will.

Also, does anyone know of a protien supplement of any sort that I can put in a smoothee? I have recently become a smoothee addict. (I am not replacing any meals with the smoothees, they are in addition to my meals)

Like I said in my last post, Muscle Milk makes a great protein shake/smoothie. I love throwing the banana cream flavor in the blender with some ice and a frozen or fresh banana! YUM!! They make lots of flavors though, and they are all yummy, even with just water (but add milk and fruit if you want to increase calories and make it into more of an ice cream shake kind of thing). It's really good stuff!

Excellent! Thanks, again. Just wasn't sure if it would work in my standard smoothie. (Rasberry juice, frozen strawberries, frozen bannana and orange sherbet.)

I tried making the above mentioned smoothie. I couldn't find the rasberry juice so I used whole rasberries, but I had the rest of it the same. With vanilla protien powder (I couldn't find the bananna, but I am sure it would be even better)....Absolutely awesome!!!!!!!!! First time I could stomach a protien supplement.

I'm so happy for you! I really knew you'd love it though. Don't forget to try Rocky Road, Cookies N' Creme, Mocha Joe, and Peanut Butter Chocolate too. You'll be fat in no time! AllStarHealth.com sells them all for a great price, including Banana. Drink up!
