Just wanted to know what feedback I would get on this. My Mom's ex-boyfriend was an ex-con and was huge. He had something like 21 inch biceps and was proportioned. He told me that working out it the morning is by far better than evening because the muscles are more responsive at this time of the day. What does anyone think?? |

Hi merlinhog, I do most of my workouts @ 5am , I am more rested, have more energy. I have a home gym so I don't have drive anywhere and I can pick my time to work out. There is 2 days a week that I work out in the evening but after a hard days work its hard for me to get motivated, and my body feels more sluggish. It really comes down to what you want and feel. Your body will tell you best. |

In the morning, your rate of metabolism is far higher and you become more active...that is why it is best not to eat too many carbs after sunset if you want to lose some fat..the same thing for working out...the muscles are fresh in the morning and you can easily get a full potential out of them and getting better results.Amr |

I work out in the morning, primarily because of my work hours. But I always feel very alive in the morning and rested and I believe it translates into a better workout for myself. Some evenings I run after work and my body feels much looser so my run feels better. So I prefer the morning, but I can't say for sure if one is better than the other. In my case, it seems to be!! |

Actually it's better simply to follow your body and work out when you best feel like it. If you are not a morning person then it's not a great idea to force yourself since your work out will not be the very best.Personally I prefer working out in the mornings but I know many of people who just cannot (I work in a gym all day long) and they are far better and get better gains when training in the night time. -------------- - Nina :o) Les Victoires éternelles sont celles du coeur. |

I prefer mornings for a variety of reasons, but probably most of all is that I have the entire day to feed and recouperate my muscles from the morning workout. I get like 5 full meals in after training. In the evening, you have to force this more, and are lucky to usually get in 2. But, then if you don't have the time in the morning, then whenever you can is best.-------------- Failing to plan is like planning to fail! |

I tried working out in the morning for a week. My results weren't as good as you guys are habing. I found it difficult to lift the same amount of weights that I normally do in the evening. My body was just dragging along, still trying to wake up. My intensity wasn't there. I guess I'll be sticking to my evening workouts until I hit a sticky point.-------------- MOO! |

I have way more energy for evening workout. I lift between 7-8 at night and Usually have great intensity. Try mornings you may end up liking it. Just lift when your body feels the best. |

I get to school 2 hours early and hit the Gym. I find it's allot better to workout in the morning. Eat a good breakfast and off you go. When your done have a protein shake and then I go to class. I feel so much better during the day than I used to. I have just started this the last 2 weeks and have noticed gains...I slowed down gainig weight at like 11lbs but I have gained 3.5 in the last 2 weeks of morning workouts. I think I found my sweet spot :)Jake |

I am not much of a morning person. If I go to the gym in the morning I am far less active and a lot less focused, and its hard to drag my self to the gym. I wait till about 2pm, I work nights so my afternoons are free, I find I feel much more like doing my work out and I can really push my self.So I guess what time is best to work out all depends on who you are. -------------- Nathan Gower "Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do." - John Wooden |

Theoretically, the best time for a man to work out is in the morning when his testosterone levels are highest. But you gotta do it when it feels best for you. I've never been able to work out in the morning; it just wiped me out too much to even think about doing anything else afterwards. So, I used to go to the gym about 12 or 1 am, beat myself senseless, come home, drink my post workout shake, and pass out! -------------- Michael "Trample the weak; hurdle the dead!" |

I like to always workout in the morning.. I might be a little slow getting started but I lift a lot better early in the day or around noon then I would later on towards the end of the day because I usually feel burnt from anything i've done during the day. I also like earlier in the day too because there are less people in the gym and its easier to get on a machine/bench/etc.. Sometimes if I get there too late and have to wait about 20 minutes just to get a bench or cable pulley I just call it a night and make it up in the morning the next day... |

I started going to the gym in the morning 1 day a week so that I would be able to work out with a friend of mine. It was so tough in the beginning. I didn't have the energy either. But, I realized that if I got enough sleep the night before, I would feel much better. Within a couple of weeks, my body adjusted. Now I go 3 days a week at 5am before work. It's so nice to get home from work and not have to worry about dragging myself to the gym. |

My schedule is identical to Carolj's (above). 5 a.m., 3 days a week. Love it! Tried working out in the evenings, but couldn't do as well and was less consistent in getting to the gym after a full day at work. For the non-early-risers, Put some Static-X, Disturbed, or Mudvayne into your CD player--you won't be dragging for long, trust me. . .

I'm definitely a night person (or early evening I should say). right after work, 5 o'clock, I'm at the gym tossing the weights around like nothing. I don't feel like I have the right fuel first thing in the morning, even after a nice breakfast - but after a 4 small meals throughout the day my body is right primed with energy (provided I had adequate sleep the night before).
i guess it's to each his own. |

I find that if I work out after work, around 5 p.m., it is a great stress reliever. Also in the morning I'm way to stiff and incoherent to try and lift with any kind of focus. I also believe that I've had a full day to feed my muscles and make sure I have enough energy to feed them during the workout. I just can't wake up in the morning force a bunch of food down my throat and go directly to the gym. But do whatever is right for you.-------------- Justin Work hard, Play hard, Stay hard! |

I go when BB1fit goes, but if I can't for some reason or another, the afternoon or even late evening is good for me as long as I get my workout in.-------------- I will lift my own weight someday!!!!! I get to test this starting today. normally I work at 6AM in the morning and have to work out around 5 PM, but my schedule at work has been changed to 11AM to 8pm so I'm working out in the morning at 8, so my wife and I can work out together. been a long time since we have worked out together so this looks to be fun..
