on your way to the gym, have a shake, it will digest faster than a bar and cause less sluggishness during your workout.
Before cardio, i like a low or no carb protein shake, it doesn't weigh me down, but it prevents me from losing muscle (hopefully).
Depending on when you ate your last meal before you left work, you may want a more filling shake before you lift. Though digesting too much might make you feel nauseous.
You need some fuel to power you through your workout. Ideally, eat a complex bar like tri-o-plex an hour before leaving work to go lift. Or have a meal, I suggest the bar because you can eat it while you workeasier than a meal.
Don't forget to have a postworkout shake to replenish your muscles!
