Hi all,
First off, I came across this site the other day and I havent stop reading it since. There is a ton of info on this site, so hats off to the site and all the users. Carry on the great work.
I am new to the fitness world and im loving it already. There will be plenty more posts from me as I have a lot of burning questions.
So to start, By reading the posts it has become clear that the number 1 thing you have to get right is your diet. So thats what i'm working on.
So, my first post is How do I determine how active I am ? so I can work out my daily calorie intake.
Here is a run down on what a typical week will be.
I work in an office 9:00-5:30 Monday to Friday (at a desk).
Tuesday & Thursday I will do a 2 mile run at 6:00am
Monday, Wednesday and Friday gym at 11:00am-12:30 (more on what gym work later)
Wednesday night 5-a-side football(soccer) for 30mins
Sunday afternoon 11-a-side football(soccer) for 90mins
All other time will be used chilling out with my partner and 2 sons (swimming, football, watching tv and generally spending quality time with the family).
Please dont feel this is too much for me as I pretty much do it already just not consistantly or without the "good Eating".
So on the above would you class that as Inactive(hope not), moderately active or very active.
I hope that is not a dumb post for my first.
Cheers,
Toad

Hi toad27, welcome to FT!
Your question is absolutely not stupid. It sounds to me like you are very active. It also sounds like you have a great plan.
Again, we're glad you are here!

Anni, thanks for the fast response much appreciated.
I thought someone was going to say very active, that means more calories thus more food. I have been really looking into the nutrition side of things and realised that I havent been eating enough. This is maybe why I cannot get rid of my love handles (body holding on to what its got).
So eating all this extra food is going to be tuff.
I have seen a previous post for calorie intake formula it is
"A very active male seeking weight(muscle) gain = ideal body weight x 17"
so for my goal of 160lb i would need 2720calories daily does that sound about right?
Cheers,
Toad

You are certainly welcome toad.
I'm still trying to find the post, but I believe that asimmer recommends that you take your current body weight x 15 (for very active) to come up with your calorie needs for weight loss. I'm thinking that the 2720 isn't enough for you, but stand by for a more knowledgeable opinion.
Be sure to make your food choices from the bodybuilder grocery list and consultant the supplements board for recommendations regarding your pre and post workout shake etc.
Have a really good day!

Welcome to the community toad27.
Take your bodyweight and multiply by 12-15. !5 being the high end 12 being the low. Never go lower than 12 though as you will not be getting enough nutrition. Start off on 15, stay there for 2 weeks and see which way you go, if you stay the same, then increase up a little. Remember to build the lean tissue (muscle) we need protein.
Good luck to you.
