Be careful what you "hear" on the basketball court and in gyms and even from teachers who have no scientific background but repeat arguments they hear that are totally unfounded by lack of knowlege.
Our bodies already produce creatine naturally. Our liver takes three amino acids present in the body, Arginine, Glycine and Methionine. It combines them to form creatine. Over 95 percent of this substance is found in our muscles. With the remainder being stored in our brain, heart and other parts of our bodies.
This happens daily, all of our lives. As we age, this amount lessens. This is why it can be advantageous to supplement with creatine, to boost our stores.
I am not going to go into the science of how creatine works here, do a search if you are interested in this aspect. I have made posts to it as well as others like Rev8ball who is very knowlegable here.
Creatine is not a hormone of any kind, and there are no known side effects. And you will not get fat.
