I just signed up for a two year commitment to a gym for $49 a month. My gym is located only about 12 minutes from my house. I go to Golds. I go alone to the gym and have no spotter. Recently a gfriend of mine said she would like to workout together. She is not that experienced with weight training and doesn't know what to do. This other gym opened up which is located about 30 minutes from my house. They only charge $22 a month but you get free trainers whenever you want. You just have to sign up a week ahead of time for a spot. Way back when I had a trainer for like 6 months. And boy did I notice a difference on the way I looked in that time with working out with a trainer. I could feel the soreness the next day and saw results. Do you think I should I should try to find someone to take my membership at my new gym and join the other one which is less expensive but they have trainers and is farther away. I am not sure because gas prices are so high now... and also it takes longer to get there. What do you think?

Aot of times spoters do help you push your selves a lil harder....i work out by myself too. I always have and if i need a spot Usualy only on bench I just ask somone.....as long as they are standing around and reasting most won't mind, and on their bench day if i'm there they will come ask me. I'd look at the equipment and value of the money, some gyms are cheaper, but don't have as much to offer. I just joined a gold myself, theres alot of stuff I like and don't like......but i go the member ship for 367 for 18 months...........can't beat that lol also golds is nice, cause if you go out of town, they give you a out of town card, so you can work out at one out of state while your on vacation so thats nice as well. Al comes down to you and what you think you should do and what will make you happy. I believe in having some spot of some excercises, however, I also belive in the 80% rule......80% of all your reps you should be able to do with no spot. * out of 10 reps you shoudl be able to acomplish. I hate nothing more when i guy is trying to rep 315 and wants a spot on 6 and get 1 and I have to curl the rest of them. lol .....your decision but i do know golds trainers are certified, your other gym may just have attendants.

30 min is a long time to drive to a gym. I think it would be harder to stay motivated when you have to take an hour out of your day just to go to the gym not counting working out. I myself wouldn't have the time but if time is not an issue and you don't have a problem driving that far go for it.

30 minutes is a long way when you think about it. Like livers20 pointed out, that's a hour both ways. Plus an hour working out. Will you spend an extra $27/month in gas and wear and tear on the car going there? I admit the trainers thing is tempting, though. I myself work out alone now (my friend who was going with me dropped out), and it's pretty easy to get a spot when you need one. Let us know what you decide.

also when do you work out......I hate rush hour traffic.........and spending 30 mins in it, by the time i'm home, I wanna work out again cause of the road rage I get from people cutting me off, stoping on a dime, weaving in and out, tail gating. Mines like 10 mins away, so i go at 4 o clock which the way i'm going is opposite of traffic, when I come home around 530 or 6 its bad but not that bad.

Five minutes by Batmobile. However, working out in the body armor suit is another story.

I read somewhere that you are 90% more likely to go to the gym if it is less than 8 minutes away from your house.. Its an odd tidbit, but I found it quite interesting.

I also read somewhere that cigarettes are a leading cause of statistics.
