lol hey guys i went out to get chinese last night which is my FAVORITE food since I had about 13 fat grams to use up still.. well my target fat limit is 28g and after getting back from chinese i added up the grams and I was at 198g!!!

So does this mean I can never have Chinese again??? The chicken fried rice alone was 90g!!

So to fix this should I exercise more and eat only about 5g of fat a day for a couple days to make up for it or should I just try to keep on track?

Keep on track. 198g of fat? WOW!! That's one hell of a speed bump in your eating plan.

I think there is a healthier way to eat chinese food. I looked up some panda express (I know it's not REAL chinese food) and it wasn't too unhealthy. Steamed rice and spicy peanut chicken, I think. Good stuff.

i LOVE Chinese food too. I would probably stick to things that weren't fried. You also might want to try Thai food. It tastes alot like chinese but the dishes are much lighter than the heavy-sauce laden things that you can get a chinese restaurants.

wow...had no idea it had THAT much fat. I had chinese the other day. I got a migraine and diarrhea from the MSG. I decided to not eat it again unless I cooked it myself. My roommates friend is a vegetarian and she can make great fried rice with tofu. I'll try to get the recipe and tips to post here. I've had some and it tastes great, but it isn't as bad for you as chicken fried rice.

It may be a possibility that you misadded on the fried rice. Be sure your serving sizes are accurate when you add things up. I looked at the beef fried rice on this nutritional tracker and it had 15.5 gr of fat per 5 oz serving. I think 5 oz (wieght) serving is probably about a cup or more. So in order to eat 90 grams of fat by fried rice (beef) you would have to eat almost 30 oz's of fried rice.

Just a thought.

I haven't had Chinese since my new lifestyle, I will have to use it as a cheat day out, I guess!

I just had some today, I thought I ordered something with plain chicken, I opened it up and all the chicken was fried - I ate it all. I went home and worked out until I dropped out of guilt. I'd do it all over again if I could.

There is a place near me where you can get the chicken and vegetables steamed, with sauce on the side, always still crunchy and the bomb!!!

I think that we should make up recipies of our favorite chinese foods, BUT modified to fit the diet... like in general tso's chicken.. instead of deep frying the chicken, we should oven "fry" it and have the sauce on the side or make an lighter version of the sauce ( if it can be done

shanda - there is a good cookbook put out by weight watchers called 'take out tonight' it has a lot of great recipes for chinese food, thai food, indian food, etc.

Making your own versions of the foods you like is always a great option.

Here is a recipe I have used for General Tsao's chicken that is less greasy :

It is from a Martin Yan cookbook

The General's Spicy Chicken serves 4
12 oz boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into 3/4" pieces
Marinate the chicken in 2 Tbsp soy sauce (you could use low sodium soy sauce)and 2 tbsp cornstarch

For the Sauce:
2 tbsp hoisin sauce
2 tbsp rice vinegar
2 tbsp water
1 1/2 tbsp light soy sauce
2 tsp sesame oil
2 tsp sugar (you could use splenda)
1 1/2 tsp hot pepper sauce

to cook
2 tbsp cooking oil

10 dried whole chilis
2 tsp garlic, chopped
3 green onions, cut into 1" pieces

Combine marinade ingredients in a bowl, add the chicken and stir to coat. let stand 15 minutes.
Combine the sauce ingredients in a bowl.
Place a wok over high heat until hot. Add oil and swirl. Add chilis and cook 10 seconds, add chicken and garlic - stirfry 2 minutes. Add onions and sauce - cook until sauce thickens - 2-3 minutes. Continue cooking to caramelize or until all pieces are well-coated, about 1 minute.

You could serve it over brown rice, with a side of broccoli for a complete, healthy meal!
