For the past 8 months ive been using weights to help get rid of the flab under my arms. It seems to be working but i don't find the weights heavy enough. Should i go out and buy heavy ones?
Secondly i would like to tone my stomach, i do sit ups but is there any other excersies i can do? :dumbbell: |

To lose the tummy, you really have to keep an eye on the diet...
As for the weights, it might not hurt to get some more, or you can try slowing them down. For instance, say you can do a certain amount of reps of an exercise in 60 seconds... try doing three or four reps over 60 seconds. You'll feel it... but, having the extra weights wouldn't hurt either. t -------------- Tim I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self. - Aristotle You have the power to change a life right in your own hands. - Paul Brandt |

GET HEAVIER WEIGHTS!!!!!
And read bulking vs. toning in the women's forum. Increase the workload. Lose bodyfat to see your abs. -------------- If you fall down seven times, get up eight. \"Inscribe this on the charm that dangles from your navel, girls. Increase gradually. pick weights that challenge your muscles. The last few reps should be dificult, not impossible, but hard.-------------- \\"Inscribe this on the charm that dangles from your navel, girls. It depends what exercise you are doing... if you find 1.5kg challenging for an exercise, don't move up to a 12kg weight... get some adjustable dumbells with plates of varying weight, or dumbells of 3, 5, 10 lbs (whatever that works out to in kgs) and go from there...
Each different exercise will likely require different weight... tricep kickbacks may require a different weight than dumbell curls... as asimmer said, get heavier weights, but get a variety too... t -------------- Tim I count him braver who overcomes his desires than him who conquers his enemies, for the hardest victory is over self. - Aristotle You have the power to change a life right in your own hands. - Paul Brandt |

godlike,
you cannot prescribe certain weights for people when you don't know what they are doing and you are not qualified to give that advice.Throwing out a random weight that you are using isn't appropriate for someone else. ============ Quoting from godlike: try 12kg but ============= millenia - progress your weights gradually, incraesing a little on each exercise. the programs here on ft are very good - pick one that works for your situation and gradually increase your weights and reps. -------------- \\"Inscribe this on the charm that dangles from your navel, girls. I agree asimmer, my OH pulled out his weights (extremely old!) and told me to work with them. They were 8kg dumbells and 26kg bar bell. No way possible I could start on them! I couldn't even lift the barbell over my head. Definitely going to have to work up to them. Bit sad really, LOL.

That's perfect... you don't wanna jump to too much weight too soon... work your way up...

godlike you crack me up, and its not a competition (however i do start my dumbell st 14kg,so in yuor face) obviously someone who has been using 1.5kg shouldnt move up in such a huge leap, just use what your comfortable with.-------------- A freetrainer is a happy trainer! A.D.F. |

Hi there, im new to the forum.
Was reading some of the posts here, to see if i could gain an insight to the way others train, for ages i did weights, situps, pressups and other exercises. My body became toned and slim, but for a while i got a bit lazy, so now my bodys still toned but i am slowly losing it. :( Now because i am going on holiday, i thought id best sort myself out again, and am slowly working weights back in, i use 6.8kg weights, and find that they can seriously tone up and strenghthen yoiur arms in a short space of time. Although my favourite exercise is going for a cycle, it gets you out in the fresh air and is relaxing while still working you out, also swimming is also great :) |

Go to the "exercise program" at the top of the page, you can customize a workout there for your current situation. Good luck and welcome to FT!!!-------------- Hungry and mean! |

im new to this and i want to basically lose weight and tone. in my plan it shows how many reps i should do, but i dont actually know how many i should be doing in each rep. this is frustrating me because i start tomorrow with my fitness plan and have no idea how im going to start if i have no idea how many i should be doing in a single rep. Can anyone just give me a head up?
