let me tell you all why these things (along with scales) are the devil...
i sit roughly 8 feet away from my favorite co-worker. instead of getting up and walking that 8 feet every time i want to talk to her about something, i use the intra-office messaging system. you know, at only 8 feet i could just lean over and whisper whatever it is i need to tell her, but do i? no. i use the messenger because I AM LAZY.
now, taking into account that i do work out hard 5 days a week, i don't think that being sedentary at my job is really going to hurt me aside from getting really bad cramps in my Message deleted by moderator due to unsuitable content for this board because i sit on it for too long. however, maybe if the messenger went away, the people who don't work out would have to be a little more active at their desk jobs and might be motivated to do a little exercising outside of the office...
something to ponder - i think of odd things during the down time at work. now if you will excuse me i'm off to message someone who is sitting at the desk 2 feet away from me.

My neighbour rings me to ask if I want to do a workout!  Even if she just walked to the front door and called me I would here her. Im glad I don't know her number, I might end up doing the same.

I just had that exact conversation this morning... that thanks to these darn computers and messengers the only reason I ever rise from my seat is to fill my water bottle and empty my bladder.
I don't like it... I miss the days of wandering the rows with a piece of paper in my hand so it looks like I have a purpose other than going off to talk about what you did last weekend with someone on the other side of the building.

I sleep during downtime at work. This works best. The time really flys.
