I am a 20y/o female... My ultimate job would be doing construction, but nobody will hire me. (I'm sure it's because I'm a girl...) I wouldn't call myself "out of shape" but I'm definately not construction worker material.. Help?

You don't say what aspect of construction. Heavy equipment operator, roofer, project management, what? If you don't have any experience in the any of the various aspects of construction it will necessarily be difficult to get someone to pay you and train you.

Our local YWCA chapter has classes for females who want to work in the manual labor aspect of construction. You might check out the YWCA chapter where you live. Your local university may offer classes/degrees in construction management, check that out too.

I've no doubt that once you have some specialized training you will be a much better candidate.

I love roofing... I did my fiance's dad's roof, built 2 porches and working on a third (wrap around backyard).. It's not like I don't have the experience or anything.. It's just not professional. I've been trying to get this job for years, but the only girls I see working there are 40 year old women in the offices....

One other suggestion is to contact your state department of transportation office and find out which companies bid on things like the traffic control for highway projects. It's possible that you could get your foot in the door this way.

Construction is a huge field with more areas of expertise than you can imagine. And I do mean expertise, whether you are driving a concrete truck or striping highway. Those people work hard and if you want to be where they are, do your homework, choose an area of training, get the training and then go apply.

Nobody cares whether you are male or female, what they care about is can you be a skilled, contributing member of their team. Good luck!

It's actually about 86 degrees and sunny. It doesn't rain here as much as people think it does. It's kinda funny that way
