okay so being fairly new to working out, lemme ask this: when is the proper time to increase weight on an exercise like we'll just say the bench press. Should you increase the plates every week and keep pushing yourself or should you increase every couple weeks so you're more comfortable lifting the weight?

you should increase once you are able to do a certain number of reps. for me it's 10 reps. If i can do 10 or more I will add more weight till I start to struggle at 6 reps. It's really the best way to get muscle fast...in my opinion..

alright, but for the program free trainers designed for me, 10 is the minimum amout of reps that i do. most of my sets are 20,16,12,10 reps

I'm sure FT have their reasons for doing that many reps. My last plan had reps like those but I just stuck with low reps. That's why there's a place to put in how many reps you did and how much weight...cause it doesn't have to be that many reps, it's just more of a goal though your goals may be different.. If you stick to it..the progress charts will show how much you progressed.

The higher reps will get you accustommed to lifting and help you nail down proper form. When you finish this 8 or 12 weeks you can change your inputs and you will get lower reps and be able to increase weight.

I increase the weight if I can do three reps. I'm such a whore for numbers, though. What can I say?

mayris....don't worry about bulking up. Lifting heavy is beneficial for everyone, and to build big muscles, testosterone is usually necessary. At the worst, a woman may become a little more bulky at first as the new muscle pushes out the fat, but the fat-burning capability of muscle soon takes over, negating that effect.
