that's true. You need at least one day off. Maybe two. I usually rock two days off.-------------- A broken clock is right twice a day |

3 to 4 days is optimal for working out. Anything more and you run risk of over training. IF your atheltic and involded in sports of any kind, i'd go with 3 days......if your just body building to get sotrong or bigger 4 days is cool.-------------- .......adversity causes some to break, but others to break records! ......minds are not vessles to be filled, but fires to be enlightened ......Confucious once said ,DO NOT play leap frog with a unicorn |

I weight train 5 days a week, run 3 days a week, play softball on Tuesdays and Thursdays, golf, bowl, and I am getting ready to join a kickball league. Is this too much?
I don't think it is. -------------- Message deleted by moderator due to unsuitable content for this board. |

I treat my body a little bit different when it comes to working out. I devide my workout into body groups and assign that bodygroup a "Rest Day" number. When that rest day expires from the previous workout, I do it again. It gives me a good 7 day workout that does not overtrain the body. This is not scientific, but what I consider to be what my body tells me :
Body Group Rest Days --------------------- --------- Arms 3 Shoulders 3 Chest 3 Back 4 Legs 4 Buttocks 3 Abdomen 2 Cardio Vacular System 1 I have list of exercises that I can do for each bodygroup based on the equipment I have. I pick two diffent ones each time I work a bodygroup and do the following sets. First Exercise For BodyGroup ----------------------- 12 @ 50% Body Weight 10 @ 60% Body Weight 8 @ 70% Body Weight 6 @ 100% Body Weight Second Exercise For Same Body Group ----------------------- 12 @ 50% Body Weight 12 @ ??% Percent (Heavy as I can till exhaustion) I have acheived some trmendous results with this routine in 6 weeks. The best gains Ive seen since Ive started. -------------- If your muscle wont allow you to do the last few reps, make your mind and heart do it. Your muscles will thank them later. |

i train once a week.
arms- tricep/bicep and cardio once say monday legs once on wed back and shoulders once friday chest once on tuesday my cardio is 3 times either on those days or in additional days. recently I do the chest twice as I'm flabby up top and at twice a week I think I might get a better build on it but feel i need a different second chest routine though as my recovery is cutting it short on time with twice- maybe something different is good eh! hope all the input of all our varying styles has been useful to you? |

that's fine...I work out on avg 1.5-2 times a week....I do 5 body split and do each body part once every 2-2.5 weeks...sometimes even 3...but 2-2.5 for me is optimal...with great results....feel free to email me...with any questions you have..

I would like to bodybuild. What is the best workout for me. I am a female 53 years old, 5'6" tall, weigh 122lbs, 25% body fat. Should I be taking supplements or what should I be taking to increase muscle mass?

I am a fan of(if natural) working muscle groups twice per week, with legs if you really beat them down, you can go once per week. Every 5 days for a muscle group is optimal.-------------- Maximus from Gladiator....Strength and Honor! |

Im trying out full body training right now. 5 big compound exercises to knock out the major areas. I do this 3 days a week changin up reps/sets/rest and the exercises. So far it works well.

Same here nate. 3 full body days, one day devoted to oly lifting, another day devoted to speed work and prehab. So if you think about it, I'm hitting my legs 5 days a week, plus climbing 2 days a week.-------------- Iron and chalk. |

yea, i dont have all that other stuff added in. i do some isolation work on parts i feel didnt get as much exercise on 2-3 of my days off. and i started swimming. im thinking about changing to Chad Waterburys Quattro Dynamo, its 4 days with 1 max, 1 speed, and some other stuff. its over on t-nation.com. Let me know what you think.
Hows your full body stuff working after the westside? |

I like it because I can still continue to climb, and train with the weightlifting club once a week, whereas if I was training westside and leg day fell on friday and practice was saturday, I'd be screwed.
I like it. I honestly never followed a strict westside template, although I did conjugate my strength training. I am doing the same now, except I am doing total body. -------------- Iron and chalk. |

is a shorter workout more days a week as good or better than a 40 min workout 3 times a weeks?
