http://www.treelight.com/health/PartiallyHydrogenatedOils.html
That link has a good article on what they are and what they do to your body. To sum it up in hydrogenated oil is a trans-fat, that can never be broken down for energy. Apparently a fat cell consists of two ends, one that attaches to the cell wall, and the other that the body uses to convert it to energy. Hydrogenated oil has an extra hydrogen atom that blocks off the end of the fat cell your body needs to convert it. So pretty much a hydrogenated oil/fat is one that your body may never be able to get rid of. I am starting wonder if the reason why I struggle that last bit of fat on the front of my abs and my hips is because of that. I seriously think I may never be able to clean that fat from my body. When I was younger I ate a lot of crap that was filled with hydrogenated oils. Even today I am shocked at how much food contains it, some foods I considered a healthy alternative even have it. So I am going to get to my question. Is it possible to break down these trans-fats? Or will the previous poor dieting of my youth forever prevent me from getting the chiseled abs I have been struggling so hard to obtain? Oh yeah, officially I am pretty PO’d about this. Why hasn’t this information been brought into the limelight? I knew trans-fats were bad, but I never realized how much food contained them. I will always check ingredients from now on. -------------- - Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Haha. Holy crap. I just started reading ingredients from random food products and almost everything has Hydrogenated oils in it. Even freakin' coffee mate has it. What the hell does coffee mate need hydrogenated oil for?
It sucks that I have choosen to avoid hydrogenated oils only to find nearly all the man made food you buy uses it. -------------- - Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Yep, avoid all products with hydrogenated oils.
This has been a no-no in our circles for years. When man starts altering the chemical composition of things, the body does not recoginze it and cannot handle it. I have said for years and still say that our food chain is killing people much more than any other thing. The foods we take in our bodies now are the "trigger" for the common ailments they refer to as common diseases. Most of these are a direct result of our diet. -------------- If you don't stand for something, you will fall for anything.... bb1fit@freetrainers.com |

I wish I knew about this before. A long time before.
I pretty much chucked everything in my house that has the words Hydrogenated Oil on them. Its almost impossible to avoid them all because nearly everything has it, but I think I can avoid most of them. Is it possible to clear these fats from the body? Or will I just have to live with them? -------------- - Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Too many hydrogenated oils or trans fatty acids may well disrupt insulin action for one. Substituting polyunsaturated fats (omega 3's will be great), can likely decrease the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes by as much as 40%! This alone is a reason to ditch the trans fat. Intake healthy fats, at least a ratio of 1:1 of Omega 3 to 6. Omega 6 is much more prevalent in our diets so we get much more of it by default..peanut butter for example. So concentrate on getting more Omega 3's like flax oil, fish oil, eat some walnuts(best 3:6 ration of any nut), etc.

Wow! I eat healthy too, but I never heard of this trans fat flab forever. Can you burn off trans fat? I eat healthy, but Im sure that Ive consumed my share of them over the years seeing as though I didnt even know they existed until about a year ago. Am I stuck with them forever? Also, what else is a good source of omega 3s?

Quoting from your site mentioned, here may lie the answer you have been asking about being able to get rid of these fats:
http://www.treelight.com/health/TransFats.html "The good news is that *every* soft tissue in your body regenerates every two years, so in that time frame you should be pretty well free and clear. Fasting will definitely speed up the process, and is highly recommended for most health conditions (excluding cancer) in any case." This site, though it is centered around margarine, it focuses on many other aspects of these fats, it really opened my eyes, also. http://www.drcranton.com/nutrition/margarin.htm -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. That sounds easier than crushing seeds as it suggests doing each day. This may sound ridiculous, but do you get the fish oil in capsules? I am in the boonies, so for all I know it is now in bottles or something!-------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan. Don't think I am willing to do the fasting to clear out those bad fats, but I think I can avoid trans fats for a couple years pretty easily.
For my good fats I eat flax, raw peanuts (unsalted of course) and fish. -------------- - Its never about how much you can lift, or how many reps you do. Its just about doing it, and doing it right. - If your hungry all the time, your not eating enough. And anyways, being hungry sucks. ~Brad~ |

My husband eats everything and anything, I have been pointing out to him those fats and what they can do, he was very surprised - but he still plowed through his bag of potatoe chips! I am ten years older than him, but if I keep my new lifestyle up and he keeps up his, I may out live him by 20 years!
Seriously, hydrogenated oil is in SO much! I know I will pay more attention after all the information posted here! -------------- Veda MISERY IS OPTIONAL ***When you are up to your ears in trouble, try using the part that is not submerged. ***The difference between a dream and a goal is a plan.
