Hey everybody! I'm a newbie here, but who cares? Anyway, I'm trying to lose ten pounds, but everytime I try a new exersize thingy, I get my body used to doing too much, so no matter how much I do, nothing helps! I hate dieting, but I know I don't overeat... usually >_<. Maybe every great once in a while. Any helpful tips? I'd like to lose ten from my waist, hips, thighs and maybe tricep area, lol. I know I should avoid fat, carbs, calories, do cardio 40 minutes straight at least three times a week and do weight work every other day, but I need some help, please, nothing seems to be working. v.v

Weclome to FT!

First of all, you can't spot reduce.. sorry.. so, ten pounds will come off wherever you body decides it wants to drop it...

Secondly... don't avoid fat, carbs, and calories... you need a certain amount of fat, just make sure it's the right kind... secondly, carbs aren't as bad for you as we have been made to believe... again, choose the right kind.. and thirdly, don't avoid calories.. you need calories to live... just avoid empty calories...

A lot of people have the misconception to lose weight you need to eat less.. WRONG.. if anything, eat more, just make sure you are eating the right stuff.... if you starve yourself, your body goes into survival mode and anything you do eat stays put and before you know it, you're getting bigger...

Check out the FAQ and the Specific Diet sections and you'll get a lot of help...

Also, get a routine from FT and it'll help too....

I all ready knew all that, I don't need to read any FAQ things. I would love to change the way I eat, but I'm only 17 and my parents won't buy anything but crappy junk food. I can only eat good when I buy my own food, which really sucks, so I try my hardest to do everything you said, anyway, I have my own routine, I don't need someone else giving me one. Thanks for the suggestion tho. v.v'

How are you going to ask for help and then chastise a person who tried to help you? I have a tip for you, tell your parents what kind of food you would like to eat, and maybe they will buy it for you. Second piece of advice would be for you not to ask any questions that you apparently know the answer to.

Dang Hec you were way to easy on her. 17 that means you can drive and you can have a job. Earn some money and drive yourself to the store.

it looks to me as if you "want" to change the way you look but isn't dedicated or decided enough to make the change yourself.

You make changes to suit yourself. You choose. Don't blame your parents, get up and go to the store, buy yourself decent food, and play nice. They're probably the best people whom you'll get free and honest advice from. So I'd be thankful if I were you. Oh and apologize. sheesh.

Oh dudes, back off, gimme a break. v.v' I do make money, and driving aint gonna get me any thinner. I don't wanna drive. >_< I'm scared to death of it to be perfectly honest, sorry to be such a jerk earlier, but it's very frustrating. I'm in deed VERY dedicated and willing, and I do pay for my own food, but most of my money goes to buying food for everyone else anyways. Also, I tell my parents what kind of food I want all the time, it's not my mom, she's not allowed to shop, my dad's oppositional and thinks I have bolemia and anorexia and every other disorder imaginable, and I promise I don't. v.v' So he's trying to 'fatten me up'.

then tell him you want him to fatten you up with lean fats, not things that are going to give you a heart attack. problem solved. you need the lean fats anyway. buy some olive oil, flax oil, natural peanutbutter, and some avocadoes. you're on your way.

Eto... Howdiekat, do you know the difference between fats, sat fat, and trans fatty acids? I'm a little confused on that... Could you please explain to me, if you know?

here's part of a post brought to ft by princesslodgey. it was an excellent post and so i'm going to just copy it into this thread...

roughly speaking fats in food are
saturated - often from animal sources
polyunsaturated - fish and some vegetable
monounsaturated - nuts olives
hydrogenated fats - margarine

fats in your body are cholesterol, LDL, VLDL and HDL

saturated fats and hydrogenated fats tend to increase the levels of cholesterol, LDL and VLDL in your body. These fats tend to promote "clogging up" of the arteries leading to heart disease and high blood pressure.

polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats tend to increase the level of HDL in your body. HDL has a protective effect and reduces narrowing of the arteries.

even good fats contain a lot of calories so try not to eat excessively if you are trying to lose weight but for your health it is a good idea to try to eat some food containing these regularly.

========

trans-fats are artifically produced - my nutrition courses are currently failing me because i'm at work and can't dig into the deeper brain archives, but i can elaborate later when i've got more time to think.

I'm looking to lose up to at the most 10-15 pounds over the summer. My only problem is that I can't keep on my workout routines. I have started running for my cardio activity for about 30 minutes today and yesterday and I'm really going to try and keep up with this everyday. What kinds of things can I do to motivate myself to keep up with my workouts?
