Does anyone know if the South Beach Diet actually works? I had my first child about 3 months ago. I did not listen to my friends about watching what I ate and ended up with Pre Eclampsia. Now I regret not listening to them because I cannot lose the weight. I have tried just watching my calories and working out, but to no avail. I was 165 before I got pregnant. I now weigh 220 and my Dr. told me to take a gander at the South Beach Diet. I am a very active person. I am a firefighter / Paramedic by trade, but with all this weight I can barely lug a high rise pack up 3 flights of stairs. Before being pregnant I would do the firefighter combat challenge and this is my first year sitting it out since I joined the fire department. I need some help here. I don't want to do the South Beach Diet if I am going to feel weak and groggy all day because weakness and firefighting do not go together.

I've tried the South Beach diet a while ago and although similar to Atkins it's not quite as extreme. It taught me that I wasn't eating right and having way to many carbs and not nearly enough protein, so in that sense it was good for me. If you eat and train sensibly you'll look and feel the difference for it. There's quite a few good posts on healthy eating on the message boards. Good luck.

South beach diet focuses on healthy carbs. you may be a little tired during the initila phase, but it is only a few weeks, and then you pahse in more carbs.

eat small, balanced meals 5-6 times a day (every 3 hours)

Don't over-exert on your cardio and under-exert on your weight training.

It takes time. You will lose the weight.

Your body isn't fully recovered for 18 months after child birth. Give it a chance and focus on the health benefits of eating right and exercising.
