I have looked through these posts and am not sure where to go with this. I am afraid of eating foods which body builders would eat because I do not want to build my body. Just lose the weight and get lean, again. I am 5'5" and weigh 180lbs. I weighed 145lbs before baby and was happy with that (my body frame really doesn't allow me to get any smaller...at 145lbs I look to weight 130lbs, I carry weight well). I only want to lose 45lbs. Well, I have this issue with not wanting to eat, I think food is bad. Then I break down and eat. I do not have a disorder, but could if I didn't have as much determination as I do. Well, anyway, I am very lost as far as "nutrition" is concerned. Carbs kill me, they make me weak. I can maintain weight real easy, it's harder for me to gain it and lose it (if that makes any sense). Hence, I am stuck right here at 180lbs. I have a VERY sedentary job, so the exercise is a MUST for me. Which there is no problem in this area, I just have to stay focused and commited. BUT, what in the world do I eat to "eat healthy". Lots of veggies and meat? Less carbs, I know, but what about in between "snacks"? IE... is it ok to eat a granola bar for a snack? But then what else is there? There are so many over-processed, high fat and carbs food out there now-a-days that I am not sure what to stay away from. The options are very limited. But I do not want to eat "powerbars" or things like that because I do not want to body build. Can someone direct me to a good place to go on these message boards or somewhere else to figure out my food crisis. At this point, I believe me getting myself up and exercising will probably lose a lot of this extra fat, but if not only for my weight loss I NEED to eat healthy for my health. Any input would be super helpful.
Thanks a bunch!!

eat a piece of fruit for a snack. If you want something quick and easy, just prepare small portions of healthy foods in a ziploc bag or a tupperware container and eat them as you need them. Something that has really helped me is to not eat unless it is a prescribed meal or snack time. I eat 5-6 times a day, and I stick to the foods on the "body builder list."

There is no way in the world that eating the foods you see on this site will make you bulk up or prevent you from losing fat. In order to gain weight on this stype of diet you'd have to be eating too much of the food or the wrong combination ie not getting enough protein or something but getting way too many stachy carbs. If you eat the calories that the nutrition plan gives you (in a lot of cases it could be too many starting out if you aren't exercising yet, so you have to play with how much at first) but be sensible. Maybe start out at 1800 calories (300 calories at 6 meals a day) and if you lose more than 2 pounds that week you know you need to up the calories, but if you don't lose anything or gain you know that you need to restrict the calories or up the exercise. You should not try to lose more than 1-2 pounds a week.

Also you might want to stop in the eating disorder thread and talk to some people. I know that you say that you don't have a disorder, but you could if you didn't have so much determination. That worries me a little. Someone who doesn't have a disorder doesn't have a food crisis (just cause you are having one though doesn't mean you also have a disorder- I'm not trying to offend you).

Stay on track whatever you do. Get moving even if you haven't figured out your food situation yet. You'll find enough help here to guide you through the weight loss. Good luck!

The principles of diet and exercise are the same whether your goals are to be lean or to bodybuild. The main difference is how far you take the principles.

I am not a bodybuilder but I thought the best place to get info on how to reduce my body fat and become leaner was from the experts, the only difference is I'm not as strict with my diet as a bodybuilder would be.

Being female, your hormones mean it is impossible to become a bodybuilder by accident! It takes years of hard work.

Following the advice on this board has resulted in a much healthier relationship with food for me, I'm sure it will do the same for you.

The best advice I can give you is to eat regularly (every 3-4 hours) with protein in each meal - this will help to break the cycle of trying not to eat then eating too much. A lot of the "powerbars" are just easy ways of getting protein and it's the protein which curbs your appetite and supports your lean tissue.

Good luck and welcome to FT
