I'm not a complete newbie to working out, but perhaps i am on nutrition. I am a 24 yr old male that is 6' and 220 lbs(not as lean as i would like) and to tone up and lose weight i'm supposed to take in over 3400 calories a day....i didn't know how effective that would be maybe somebody could explain this to me :surprised:
If your calories are from the proper sources you will do very well. Look at an area of more like 12 - 15 calories per pound depending what you want to do. Welcome to the site and good luck.

Welcome, Megalomaniash, to FT, it is good to have you here. Take the calories suggested to lose weight and give it a couple weeks, if you don't see results just simply lower that amount by an additional 250 calories and wait again and see if that is working. You will have to find your personal needs and the suggested calories are a very good baseline, if as carivan said, they are from proper sources (like here on FT!). Workout and watch what you eat and you will be able to attain your goals! Good luck to you!
