I was in Dallas this past week and worked out at a 24 Hour Fitness and a trainer came up to correct me on my leg press'. Here is my question to you cause I don't think he was right. How far do you take the weight down when you are pressing. He told me to only take my knee's about 4 inches away from my chest which is not near going parallel like if you were squating. Is he right for this type of exercise or should I take the weight down so that my legs are parallel?

In the fitness resources, it says to take your knees to 90 degrees. In the demonstrative pictures, his knees are nearly on his chest.

I think the distance away will vary by your chest size :)

Full range of motion will give you the best results on leg presses. Always strive for this, you will not get hurt like you can going too low on squats for instance. Different feet positioning will call for different range of motion, as it will hit different parts of the quads. For instance, for leg sweep, feet low and close on the pad. You will also notice your weight in this manner will most probably drop off. But really hits the quads well. Squats are of course number one but some folks have problems with them. I don't do them alot anymore due to a tender lower back. I am very careful when I do. (about every 3-4 leg workouts I do them).
