Hi. I'm not really new to the gym, but I've never really done much on the weights front.
My question is, I'm looking to lose weight 1st, then define 2nd. I recently managed to lose 4 stone (56 pounds) through dieting (Weight Watchers Plan) & excercise in the gym (mainly cardio work). However, I have managed to put back on most of the weight, 3 stone (42 pounds), through bad eating & living.
I have always been under the impression that to lose weight you need to do cardio work, but in my fitness plan there seems to be little mention of cardio work, instead concentrating on the weights.
Can anyone advise me as to whether the weights program is likely to help me shift the weight 1st.
ps. I'm 32, 6ft 1" & 17 stone (238 pounds).
Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to FT.... Muscle is the best fat burner there is...

Use your weight program, but add some cardio to complement the weights... don't forget, your heart is a muscle and cardio will help it too...

Do the cardio on an off weight day or at different times of the day from your weights.. separate them by at least six hours...

Do a search on the various types of cardio... and bbfit1 has a great thread in one of the boards about cardio..

Have fun!

I agree, both! It is very important that you do weights as as you rebuild muscle, you will be burning more energy 24/7! Adding cardio is a great way to get that extra boost of fat burning in addition to weight training!

Welcome to FT! Good luck with your goals!

I believe one of the reasons is you won't get as an effective cardio or weight session if you do them too close together. Your energy will have been depleted by the exercise you did first.

BB1 has a great cardio thread in one of the forums regarding this. Very informative.
