I know how it works when I'm trying to loose weight. I work out like crazy, I restrict calories, and I either stay the same weight for a while or even gain a little in the beginning. I also know I am gaining muscle, which is heavier than fat tissue, but it is so frustrating when I step on that cursed scale after working so hard for a couple weeks and I have gained. Yes I am changing the composition of my body. I can feel all my muscles tightening and getting bigger. But is there anything anyone can recommend to get a jumpstart on loosing the weight? There are tons of crazy pills on the market, but I am reluctant to try them. I've been down that road, and it did work, but some can be dangerous. I know I need to stick to it, but it gets discouraging. Would anyone recommend thermogenic boosters? And if so, what affordable brands work?

Welcome to FT.
How many calories do you eat per day?
What type of weight training?
Building muscle is the BEST fat control thing you can do. You answered your own question. Just stick with it. There is a great bunch here as far as support goes. Check out the Eating disorder board and the obesity board. Look for the Monday check in group. They are wonderful.
You can also do a fitbuddy search and find thermogenic foods. Save your money on weight loss pills. You can use it to buy more weights or just send it to me.

Pure green tea is a good natural thermogenic booster.
Basically the conversion of fat to heat. Green tea contains 2 compounds called catechins and caffein.
These compounds prevent the breakdown of noradrenaline and cylic adenosine monophosphate.
That means one spends more time burning fat for energy.
And no, I don't sell the stuff!

Charlie: to answer your questions, I am resricting my calories to 1200 day. I give myself some room on weekends and I may eat up to 2000/day then. But I've been really trying to stick with this.
I do various exercises during the week including free weights, pilates, and Tae Bo (kick-boxing), among others.
Also, thank you to both Charlie and Carivan for your support and the info. I was surprised how fast you both responded.
I am sticking to it.

If the weight in your profile is accurate, then you are seriously undereating. Your body goes into starvation mode andholds onto fat. To maintain your goal weight of 160, you need about 1600 calories a day just to live. You need to add some calories for the cardio and weight lifting.
You also don't want to drastically up your calories. You may want to add 250 cals per day for a week and then keep going up until you reach around 2400 cals per day. It may sound crazy but with the proper balance of protein carbs and fats you will start to build muscle. Lifting is the best way to build muscle. Muscle burns more calories than fat. Also by going to 5 or 6 small healthy meals a day you will kickstart your metabolism and turn your body into a fat burning machine.
Have you looked at the FT workouts and nutritional guidelines? Great place to start. Use the support available here. It works.
