Was wondering what you guys think of the bagged meals were you add your chicken/beef/turkey to the veggies and rice/noodles. We buy these every once in a while to break up the monotony of what we can afford to eat, and I was wondering if these are a better alternative than say, mac and cheese, or rice a roni?? Whadya think??

I think the general advice of the board is to go with freshly made meals instead of the prepared foods that are so high in hydrogenated oils, sodium, preservatives etc...

I have some of them in my freezer, along with some lean cuisine/smart ones entrees for those days when the groceries aren't there, time is short and the tummy is a-rumbling.

Funny thing though, the last few times I've had them I've felt really icky.. upset stomach, irritable digestive symptoms etc. I think your body gets accustomed to consuming that bad stuff, but as you get healthier and clean out the system it starts to reject it.

My two cents: use them sparingly as you indicated to break up monotony and keep looking for healthy alternative recipes. It seems like the convenience of those bagged things is obvious, but really, how hard is it to toss whole grain or spinach pasta in a pot, cook your chicken breasts, steam some fresh veggies then mix it together!?!?

The first time I did that I was so proud of myself.. it's amazing the boost you get from actually making it yourself, in addition to the health aspect.
