Would you advise beginning the lean-out phase immediately after the 8 or 12-week mass program? Or will the 1 or 2 week rest period (of no weights at all) be necessary?

I would suggest an Active Rest week. Thats 2 days overall body workout with a few old favorite exercises. 8-10 exercises 2 sets 12 reps. Play a few sports for fun. As far as the diet its ok to start that right away too. The reason is you should reduce your calories over a period of a couple weeks instead of instantly dropping them down. Your body needs time to adjust to a lower cal diet!

Thanks! I'll rest for 1 week after my 8-week mass program ends as you suggested.
Lately, I've been fluctuating between 160 and 165 pounds (can't seem to hold on to weight, as usual)...so I have been pondering whether or not I should start my lean-out phase now. I play tennis about 2-3 times per week (that's my cardio routine) so I won't be cutting that out. And, I need to tone the little amount of bulk I've accumulated during my 8-week mass program (which is ending in 2 weeks).
Of course, I'll miss eating like a horse...

most of us flutuate 5 pounds on any given day( maybe three or so for girls) thats just changes in hydration etc. it's probably not muscle loss! What is your body fat goal? where are you now? and when do you want to hit your goal?

Well, I'm at about 13-14% bodyfat now probably. I originally started with about 11-12% prior to the mass program. Goal is to reach 7-8% in a couple of months (would really like my ab muscles to finally come out!). Do you think this is too short a time? I've never gone below 10%...at least not that I was able to measure, even in my best teen year shape.
