i am new to this site so bear with me. i am beggining a new diet and exercise program this week and i have a question. i am a 21 year old male, about 5'10", 205 pounds. my goal is to lose weight and tone up. when i weight train, how many exercises per major muscle group should i do? my routine looks like this:

sunday- chest, triceps
tuesday- legs
thursday- shoulders
saturday- back, biceps

i also plan on doing cardio about 5 times a week. my main concern is overtraining so i would just like to know how many exercises i should do for each muscle group. thanx.

I would suggest 3-4 for larger muscle groups like chest, back, and legs, and 2-3 for small groups like biceps, triceps. 9-12 reps per set, 3 sets for each exercise is normally good.
