Hi everybody... I've noticed that my traps are starting to notice. However, the right trap seems more developed than the left trap... can this be because of not doing things correctly? I usually go for dumbell shrugs, behind the back barbell shrugs, etc...

Are there any other exercises that I can use to target my traps?

Thanks

Yes, there are lots of good exercises.

Here are a few:

Upright rows - Grasp a barbell with an overhand grip about 10 inches apart. Let it hang in front of you. Lift it up keeping the bar close to your body until the bar about touches your chin. Do it strictly, no cheating or swinging.

Heavy upright rows - Same thing, but with a wider grip, like 12 inches. This one you go heavy on and cheating is a part of the technique. You cheat by swaying with your back, pushing with your legs, and/or your calves. Keep your elbows higher than the bar.

And of course dumbbell shrugs and barbell shrugs.

Clean and press, deadlifts, reverse laterals, rowing exercises, cable and dumbbell laterals all work the traps as well. So if you already include any of those, keep in mind they are helping your traps to grow.

Problem solve the situation. If the muscle developement is noticeable, try and target, isolate the weaker area until you see improvement. Compare and conrast the left and right trap. See how much weight you can haul with right side and then with the left. It may just be that your left side is lagging behind, thus giving you the answer of what you must do.

heres a few things i see people doing that are bad when traing traps

are you rolling the shrug? to the front or back?
If so stop!

Are yoru elbows bent? or straight? they need to be straight as possible

Are you doing sissy shrugs?
as if doing alot of weight and not actually shruging just moving the weight. You should "squeeze your ears" for 2 secs, then release.

I like to do dead holds, and farmers walks

dead hold, there no real shrug, just resist, Put alot of weight on a bb and walk awy from rack, or put the spot thing low enough you can hold it at you theighs. Relax you trap and let the weight, stretch your traps, try to resist the whole way down. helps with grip too.

farmers walks, I do these on my tip toes, you don't have to but I like to . You basicly get 2 heavy dumbells, and walk around on your tip toes, and hold a shrug at the same time. Works, traps, grip, legs, calves, and stablizers. looks cool too, walking around with 100 lb dbs lol
