Up until today I had been doing weights at home. Today I started at the YMCA in the area. The weight room and Nautilis equipment is pretty nice.
As I am looking around the place and starting to work-out with my handy FT daily work-out sheet on a clip board, I notice at least 6 guys come in do very quick sets of one exercise and then leave. Or they do them very fast and move on to the next excercise without stopping. Then after a few min. they leave as well. Meanwhile I am still on the same set of an exercise. I dont think I am loafing, just trying to really work the muscles (as I do at home)
Is this a normal experience in a gym?

You will see all sort of things at the gym, from men cheating 200 lbs up on thier curl by throwing thier shoulders back, to guys doing 10 sets of one exercise to people doing one set of ten exercises. Everyone has thier own theories and workout ethic. Don't sweat it, just work at your pace and your comfort and ignore everyone else. That is unless they try to give you some friendly advice. Then at least listen, consider and decide whether to keep it. That's how I do it anyway.

I see that also where I go. But hey, they are not using my muscle. Stay focused and congrats on getting into a gym.

If they are doing quick sets and moving right into another exercise, they may be doing circuit training(although this normally entails more than 2 exercises). This is more for endurance with a little strength gain. Or as you stated they do quick exercises with no rest, same exercise. They again could be doing supersets for just one muscle, this can also be an endurance technique. Very difficult to tell from what you say. There are many ways of training, and varying reasons to train differently for different goals. Then there are of course the gym morons. You would probably have to ask them what they are trying to achieve to make the judgement.
