Lighter weights with higher reps in the first place will not build much muscle, this is more an endurance type workout, and if you have good muscle, may well end up with you losing some of it. As far as time to adapt, sure, the ligaments and tendons and joints do not adapt as fast as the muscles do.

When switching from a low weight-high rep routine to a high weight-low rep workout does your body need a week to adjust to the heavier load? Also another question i was curious about is does muscle soreness differ with heavier weight as apposed to lighter weight?

Like the shoe guys say. Just do it. You'll be fine.

about your second question... if you work out long enough, you're going to be sore the following day(s)... but if you lift heavier weights, i'm sure the intensity of your soreness will be higher... but don't worry about it... just do what charlie said and nike... you'll be fine...
