Cutting phase calories...

So if Im on a cutting phase, what carbs are suitable?
I know I should eat sufficient protein, but where do I get the rest of my calories from if even fruit is off limits?

Also, I have read on the board that it is "very difficult" to build muscle (bulk up a little) and shed fat simultaneously (i.e. lower bodyfat), but Ive never read that its impossible. So, if I was interested in accomplishing this elusive feat, what appriach should i take?

Im starting to think no one knows what the real deal is. Too much contadictory info out there.

Its not impossible, but it is a very very VERY long road to take. I used to do it and it took me almost a year to gain a very small amount of weight.

As for carbs, why not veggies and oats? Just avoid carbs that come from simple sugars and you should be fine. Body builder grocery list has lots of ideas.

Trying to do them simultaneously is a very very slow process. Going through different phases of bulking then cutting shortens the time it takes to get to the end results. However, progressive gains without fat gain is often desirable once you are satisfied with your muscle mass.

Also, as far as carbs go, you still need them. Fill out the FT nutritional profile. It will tell you exactly how many carbs/protein/fats you need based off your current goal. Also, as previously suggested, use the "Grocer list for a bodybuilder" to give you ideas of which foods to eat. You can find this at the top of this category.

Thanks. Here's the deal. I want to bulk up a little, but I also want to cut my abs. Im 6'1, 190 and I guess Im looking to look like Brad Pitt in Fight Club. Anyone know what he weighed/stood at the time? I really want to lower the fat around my abs, it annoys me. Which do yu think I should do first?

The more muscle mass you have the easier it is to lose the fat. If you are not overweight, then I suggest doing the mass program first but include a good ab workout. Remember the abs are muscles as well and grow just like any other muscle. In order for them to show they will need to become larger from resistance training. At first it will push out the fat you currently have, but once you finish doing a mass program, you can cut away the fat to show your new abs. Good luck! :)
