they say that teens make more progress in muscles then adults do... because there testosterone is shooting through the roof, like teens make more muscle then adults do... so how come adults look bigger then us? example iv'e been lifting for 1 and a half I just turned 16 I weigh 152 and I have 14 inch biceps... this other guy weighs 152 is 23 and and has also been lifting for a year and a half but has 15 1/2 inch biceps and has never lifted before... I lift heavier weights then he does... and he lifts lighter weights... he has never lifted before and I have since 13 but on and off then went back on at 14... explain that and he is not genetically gifted... I dont know if I am or not but I make good gains? please spread your facts or opinions....

There are several factors that affect muscle gains: age, diet, amount of rest, training routine, metabolism, genetics, lifestyle (e.g. living with stress, etc.), gender, etc., etc.

Everyone is different. Oh, and here's a big misconception: just because one lifts heavier, doesn't mean their muscles are going to be bigger than someone who lifts lighter!

Don't forget the influence of sports and occupation. You can gain a lot of muscle without setting foot in a gym or touching a dumbell. I've been lifting weights for (almost) 4 years, but I'm a farm girl ... I've got 13 inch biceps, but I don't think I lift huge weights.

<groan> Just to clarify ... my measurements aren't meant to cut anyone down (it looks like I'm bragging, but I'm not).

Sounds like you've done pretty well, quads...especially being a female. Keep up the good work!

Yury, if you are always trying to lift heavier then yes it's the other guy who'll have the best mass results (you'll be stronger in strength thou).
BBs are not powerlifters and we normally stay in the range of 70-80% of our RM to build muscle mass.

Of course it's cool to be able to take very heavy, but then you just have to know what excactly you are looking for.

Not trying to brag.. but i an 5 10, 185 and i have 15 and a half inch biceps.. I curl 60 pound dumbells for 6 reps. My friend is the same height and he is about the same weight, but he has close to 17 inch arms but cannot curl more than 45 for 6 reps. I am 24 years old... When I was your age Yuri, i was 142 pounds and 12.5 inch biceps. I was able to lift 50 pounds per arm for 6 reps.. Basically, genetics have a lot to do with it. I was a small kid and I am not a big guy now, but when you hit about 23 (early 20's anyway) your metabolism will slow down and your body will start thickening, and it wont be all fat. Your body realizes that it wont grow in height anymore so you will be able to see better results from your workouts ( on the scale and with the measuring tape. That is my experience anyways... and my friend Jay will always have those huge triceps. even though he isnt very intense in the gym..

I have heard that within like the last two months of puberty we gain 30% more muscle mass. I am so looking forward to that now and getting rid of all the other problems of puberty.

Yury...why not try to combine the 2...power and bodybuilding. It is what I try to do. I will do for example 2 sets with my heaviest weight, may get 6 reps max, if so, I go up. Then follow that with 3 sets at 70-80% of that wweight. You get power and strength, plus the added reps for inticing all muscle fibers. Give it a whirl. I like the heavy weights too, but this is a way to get both for decent size gains.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about it. Some people just put on muscle easier even without working as hard. I know for me, it's very hard to put on muscle, that's why I have to eat alot and train really hard.

First off, you can't compare your results with those of another, regardless of age, race, sex, etc. Everyone's body acts slightly different. The only comparisons you can make are on yourself. Secondly, adults will often look bigger because there is a lot of natural growth that occurs as you age. I know when I was 15, I was far less muscular than at 21, but I didn't lift weights in between. The real position is that teens can make FASTER gains than adults. So I'll make slower progress today - all else being equal - than I would have (relatively, of course) when I was your age.

don't realy on the %30 as a for sure - some people don't see any more mass from what they have now - or nothing they cna see.

as well, that %30 could apply to muscles u don't even know you have - or muscle that do not show like your bi's or pec's. - or - u could blow up like a ballon.

@blondie: never heard of such thing. I know bulking up may cause that but i guess it would apply to the old people and how healthy they are. a good excerice and plenty of stretching, maybe some yoga, couldn't probably help out.
