cardio after weight training?

Hello, I've started this workout thing just 3 weeks ago, Im having alot of trouble with what to eat.. but sooner or later i will catch on.
My big question is.. My friend and I do a mixture of weights 4 days a week. all of these are 20 reps 2 reps of 10. It's not just upper or lower only it's both we do : hip ups, crunches,leg lifts, free weights, ab machine 2 of them. (i don't know what all of these machines are called yet) the one where you lay down and put your legs upward to work the back of your legs, one where you are standing and lean forward then lean up, ( works the lower back) lunges, 2 different arm pull tward you machines. then we go and do 10 min of cardio, i know this is not enough. but is doing in the same hour not a good thing?
we go to the gym at 5:30am we are there then we shower at 6:30am so 1 hour a day is all we do, is this not enough? my friend has gained 6lbs, i've gained about 3lbs. what are we doing wrong?
I know some of it might be muscle because we never worked out before. i used to only be able to do 6 linges now i do 20 :)
