Try this exercise. It's called Straight Arm Bent Over Lat Pull Down. This is an isolation exercise. It also eliminates the use of your biceps. I find that normal lat pull downs work my entire arm, which defeats the purpose when your arms get tired before fully working the lats!

This exercise is performed on a high pulley, but a standard lat bar setup should do the trick. Stand back far enough from the high pulley to raise the weight stack. Grasp the bar with a closer than shoulder width apart spacing with your palms down. After you take firm hold of the bar bend slightly forward from the waist about 45 degrees, keeping your back straight, head up and feet a bit wider than shoulder width apart and knees slightly bent. With your arms extended out in front of you pull the bar straight down, keeping your elbows locked until the bar nearly touches your knees. Pause for a peak contraction and then lower slowly under control until you get a complete stretch in the lats.

Try this for a few weeks then update me on your progress...

Lat raises are great as are pullups. Concentrate on feeling it in your lats throughout the motion. With a little effort and concentration you can really isolate these muscles.
