I just started my workout on thursday. It is satarday and I'm really sore still. Not so much that I can move, or I have to stop my daily activities. but my arms are hurting, especially if I extend my arms.
I'm fairly sure that by next thursday, they will be fully recovered, but im wondering something.
Should I decrease the pounds I lift so I am not so sore, or is it normal to be pretty sore in the beggining? I don't want to ruin my muscles by over working them, so that is why I am wondering what I should do?
Should I keep the same amount of pounds for my workout or should I decrease how much I lift so I'm not in as much pain after the workout.

Were you sore during your workout or did it come on after?
If it came on during your workout and is worse with exercise it could be an injury, so be careful.
If it came on after a delay, and gets better after a few minutes exercise, then it's likely just to be soreness, and there's no need to decrease your weights.
And yes, it's pretty normal to be sore when you first start. It's happened to most of us:)

Yes it's very normal to be very sore when you first start lifting, just make sure you get the necessary rest between workout and are eating a healthy diet and lots of protein.

My muscles didn't start becomming sore until the next day ( I worked out before I went to bed).
Thanks, I guess I won't worry If I am sore.
Also, today I am going to start mixing water with this protien powder called Whey to go

yep, your muscles will thank you later on :) drink it after every weightlifting session.
heh. I remember the first time I worked out..I came out of the gym feeling like a real toughie, when I woke up the next morning, I thought I was dying
After a while you get used to it, you even crave some amount of soreness
And when you're so adapted to it, you function normally along with a sore body that other people can't even handle. That's how you can tell if a person really does love working out. :dumbbell:

Yuck...
I just took the Whey Protien powder with water and drank it... Doesn't taste very good. Next time I am going to put it in a milkshake... or atleast milk.
Thanks for the support and advice. I won't worry when I am in pain, I will relish every minute I am in pain.
...
Maybe not every minute :)

yeah, not every minute lol, but when soon, you'll know which pain comes from having worked the muscle group and which pain comes from an injury.
And milk with protein powder isn't such a good idea as your post-workout meal, james545.
I try putting it on the blender, with some water and lotsa ice. add some fruit and you got a smoothie. look at the recipes and nutrition section, you'll find lots of great ideas :)
