eating after workout

Due to my circumstances I train every other night from about 8.30 till 9.45 and go to bed about an hour later.I have heard you should eat after a workout,so i tend to have a tin of mackerel,will this be beneficial to me? thanks

That though healthy, is not a good recovery option. Have this directly before bed. Immediately after training you need to get out of a catabolic state from the training, as quickly as possible, especially so if it is late. You do not want to be catabolic for the entire night. Have a whey/simple carb shake after your training, then about 1/2 hr. later if this is your last meal, have the mackerel. (this is in fact a good pre bed meal, good protein and healthy fats).
