I love this sight. It might be the real explanation for pritchard and a few others.

Great! Now that we've explained Pritchard, can anyone explain systems of linear equations and inequalities?

y=3/5x - 3
2x - y=-4

Good luck because I'm ready to throw myself in front of a train. No, this is not an invitation for a story problem involving a train.

Here is what I have come up with.

You solve for x in one equation

X=(5y+15/3)

Then plug that in for x in the second equation

So you have

2((5Y+15)/3)-Y=-4

Simplfy
(10y+30/3)-Y=-4
10/3Y+10-Y=-4
7/3Y+10=-4

Isolate Y

So 7/3Y=-14
Y=3/7(-14)
Y=-6

Now take -6 and plug in for Y in either equation and solve for x.

2X-(-6)=-4
2X+6=-4
2X=-10
X=-5

so your X coordinate is -5 and your Y coordinate is -6

Although it was probably a rhetorical question, that is how I would solve the problem. However, it has been a year or two since I have had to so I could be off.

Daniel will you marry me, or at least hang out with me? You are fabulous because that was NOT a rhetorical question and I'm having a terrible time with my algebra homework. That was very, very helpful!:love:

Unfortunately I am already married, and I can't talk her into letting me take a second, but thanks for the offer.

Hanging out is not forbidden though. :)
