High Intesity Interval Training(HIIT) It is a cardio routine usually done early in the day for about 18-24minutes. start at a warm up pace lets say at level 3 for 2 min. then you would jump to level 5 for 2min. back level 3 for 45sec. then to level 6 for 2 min. back to level 3 for 45sec. and so on and so on....

No do not go over 24 minutes i only go for 20 minutes. HIIT is designed to rev up your metabolism for the rest up the day which is why it is best done early in the day preferably in the morning because the rest of the day your metabolism will be raised therefore using fat for energy. Do a search at the bottom of the page for HIIT there are many posts discussing this form of cardio.

Justin you are right about Hiit being that it boosts up your metabolism. Actually any cardio exercise will do that, but HIIT is more fore building up endurance. It can be done with any method. Most think of it just on a treadmill or elipticle, and there isn't a limit of 24 minutes. I do intervals on my bike (road) but time the intervals by distance for up to 90 min. As for length of time just keep a watch on the HR.
I didn't mean to put your post down in any way Justin, just adding to the info.

No worries Ivan:big_smile: I thought that HIIT was to be kept short not as long as normal cardio, do to the level of intensity as you move up in the levels. I end up running the same amount in distance in 20 min doing HIIT as i do when running for 30 min.:dumbbell:

That is the whole point of it, eventually you will be doing more distance, by adding more time. Keep it going!

Do a fitbuddy search - there are a lot of posts about HIIT and lots of sample routines for it.

Thanks for all of the info. I tried my first HIIT workout today on the treadmill. I was dying. I went for twenty minutes and was exhausted. Awesome thing, this HIIT.

Be sure to alternate HIIT with regular cardio. It's always good to keep your body guessing.
